Just another reason to feel good about life in the Emirates
The UAE has landed in the global top five countries for expats, giving international residents another reason to feel good about life in the Emirates.
According to BBC News, the UAE ranks fourth overall in the 2026 Expat Insider survey, behind Panama, Mexico and Thailand.
The annual ranking assesses destinations across areas including quality of life, ease of settling in, working abroad, personal finances, housing and digital services.
For the UAE, some of the biggest strengths are particularly practical ones.
The country scores highly for career prospects and expat essentials, including visas and language, making it relatively straightforward for international residents to build a life and career here.
And while the UAE is well known for its luxury lifestyle, the ranking points to plenty of other reasons people choose to stay.
The country’s international population means newcomers can quickly find communities from around the world, while modern infrastructure, a strong jobs market and easy access to everyday services all add to the appeal.
Life beyond the skyscrapers
For those already living here, there’s also plenty of UAE to discover beyond the usual Dubai brunches, beach clubs and five-star hotels.
In Dubai, that could mean swapping the usual tourist circuit for a ride on the Metro, exploring Bur Dubai and Deira, crossing Dubai Creek by abra or stopping at one of the many neighbourhood restaurants serving Indian, Filipino, Lebanese and other international cuisines.
Elsewhere in the country, Ras Al Khaimah offers a slower pace, with beaches, mountains and fewer of the everyday traffic pressures associated with the bigger cities.
The emirate is also home to Jebel Jais, while Al Jazirah Al Hamra offers a glimpse into a very different side of the UAE.
So, why does the UAE rank so highly?
The answer is a combination of career opportunities, practical services and an established expat lifestyle.
For people considering a move to the Emirates, the latest ranking is another indication that the UAE isn’t just a place to work for a few years.
With its international communities, strong infrastructure and wide range of lifestyles across the seven emirates, it continues to be a destination where expats can put down roots.
The UAE’s fourth-place ranking puts it ahead of popular expat destinations including Brazil, Spain, Singapore and Portugal, making 2026 another strong year for the Emirates on the global expat stage.
