Summit International School’s inspirational ‘War of Women’ creation scooped an ‘Designer of the City’ gong
Summit International School was busy this week putting Abu Dhabi on the international map when they competed in the Junk Kouture World Finals held in Monaco, scooping the over ‘Designer of the City’ award in the process.
Head of the Art Department Ms. Afsheen Rana travelled to the lavish French state with three of her students with Maria Ammar, Shahd Belal and Haya Sami contributing to the dazzling showcase of creativity, innovation, and sustainable fashion.
Students from Abu Dhabi schools, alongside participants from around the world, converged in the principality to unveil their extraordinary designs crafted from recycled materials.
Speaking about their design entitled ‘War of Women’ on the eve of the event Afsheen could not hold back her pride at the achievements of her students: “I’m very excited and immensely proud to represent the UAE and Summit International School on a global scale. It’s truly a dream come true moment for all of us.

“Our ‘War of Women’ design stood alongside the finest creations from London, Paris, Dublin, Milan, New York, and Abu Dhabi, showcasing the talent and creativity of the UAE to the world.”
“Our design showcases the strength and power of women. We’ve chosen a simple, bold dress style to convey that women can be serious and determined when making bold decisions, prioritising what’s right and practical without being fragile.
“This embodies the essence of feminism beautifully. The chains and lock symbolize the challenges women face, but when they find inner peace and decide to take action, they can break free and fight for their rights,” she added.
Junk Kouture has become of the most popular competitions run at high school level around the world. Against the backdrop of Monaco’s opulence, the runway came alive with an array of avant-garde outfits that seamlessly blended artistic expression with environmental consciousness.
The finalists from the UAE presented awe-inspiring creations, embodying the spirit of repurposing waste into wearable art.
News of the ‘Designer of the City’ award caps a memorable creative week for Summit International School, who also featured heavily in the final of the second edition of the Art of Recycling competition hosted by Team Yalla and Abu Dhabi Mall.
