Fail to stop for a school bus? That’ll be AED 1,000 and 10 black points
Drivers in Abu Dhabi are being warned: ignoring the STOP arm on a school bus will earn you more than just a fine.
You’ll rack up AED 1,000 in penalties and 10 black points on your licence – instantly.
The rule is simple: when a school bus extends its side-mounted stop arm, you must stop fully from both directions, leaving a five-metre safety gap.
This isn’t optional, it’s enforced electronically with radar systems, and violations are automatically recorded.

Police say the STOP arm helps protect students, who often make unpredictable moves when exiting the bus, including crossing the road in front of traffic.
Drivers can appeal a fine only if it’s proven that the bus stop arm was activated improperly, such as in unsafe or prohibited locations.
With the new school year underway, don’t risk your licence or a child’s life. Just stop.
