Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds join Australia’s SailGP Team and set course for Abu Dhabi in November

When Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds team up, it’s usually on screen.

But now, the Hollywood duo is trading red carpets for high-speed catamarans, diving headfirst into the adrenaline-fueled world of SailGP as co-owners of the newly rebranded BONDS Flying Roos; Australia’s reigning champions in the global sailing league.

Their first major outing with the team? Possibly Abu Dhabi this November, where the Flying Roos will compete as part of SailGP’s international tour.

It’ll mark a striking crossover moment where blockbuster meets boat deck; Jackman’s Aussie pride and Reynolds’ irreverent charm sailing straight into sport’s most dynamic arena.

The two stars are joining forces with Olympic gold medallist Tom Slingsby, who continues as driver, CEO, and co-owner of the Australian crew.

With three championship wins under their belt, the Flying Roos are already a dominant force in SailGP. Now, with a splash of celebrity and a brand new look, they’re setting their sights on even greater global impact.

Enter BONDS, the iconic Australian underwear brand now on board as both Title Partner and Official Underwear Partner.

The partnership marks the first time the team has had a title sponsor; and in true BONDS fashion, the tone is proudly cheeky. “We’ve got their backs (and bums) covered,” quipped BONDS President Tanya Deans.

The rebrand comes at a time when SailGP is rapidly gaining momentum as one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.

Launched in 2019, the league features 12 national teams racing identical 50-foot foiling catamarans at speeds topping 100 km/h, often within metres of spectators in iconic waterfront cities.

“This is more than a team; it’s a movement,” says Slingsby. “With BONDS and our new co-owners on board, we’re bringing a fresh wave of energy, humour, and Aussie spirit to the global stage.”

From high-speed turns to high-stretch waistbands, the BONDS Flying Roos are blending performance and personality like never before.

The Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix in Portsmouth is scheduled for 19-20 July, followed by the inaugural Germany Sail Grand Prix in Sassnitz on 16-17 August.

The season then moves to Saint-Tropez, France, on 12-13 September, and Geneva, Switzerland, on 20-21 September.

The Spain Sail Grand Prix in Cádiz will take place on 4-5 October. The season then culminates at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix Grand Final on 29-30 November.
