From relaxation of Covid-related rules to the launch of Rashid Rover, the country witnessed key moments across the year.

2022 has definitely been one happening year, especially after Covid had slowed down things in the past. A number of key events took place across the world, including the UAE.

So before you kick off 2023 with a bang, here are all the major events that took place in the UAE in 2022:

 

January

 

UAE shifted its weekend from Friday and Saturday to Saturday and Sunday, with Friday being a half working day.

The first space economic zone was also established in Masdar City.

 

February

 

Relaxation of operational capacity restrictions on activities and events was introduced post-Covid.

Introduction of a federal corporate tax on business profits was also introduced.

 

March

 

A resolution was passed for UAE citizens working in the government who wish to start their own businesses. It was established that those looking to start their own businesses could take a sabbatical from their government placements.

The World’s Greatest Show, Expo 2020 Dubai, also came to a close.

 

April

 

The UAE Cabinet approved the UAE’s Digital Economy Strategy, as well as its joining of the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE).

 

May

 

The UAE mourned the loss of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. After his passing, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was appointed as the country’s new President.

 

June

 

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed ordered the completion of pending housing grant applications and the restructuring of the low-income citizens’ support programme. The UAE unemployment insurance law was also issued.

July

 

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed announced the nation’s priorities and future plans, soon after the UAE Cabinet approved the controls for sabbatical leave for citizens working in government.

 

August

 

The Higher Committee for Government Digital Transformation was established.

The UAE also ranked 13th globally in the gross national income (GNI) per capita index.

 

September

 

The new generation of the UAE passport was launched.

 

October

 

The trial run of the new Advanced Visa System was begun.

The country’s federal budget 2023-2026, with an estimated expenditure of AED252.4 billion was also approved.

 

November

 

UAE return to complete normalcy with the cancellation of all COVID-19 precautionary measures.

 

December

 

The Abu Dhabi Space Debate was inaugurated.

The Arab world’s first lunar rover, dubbed Rashid Rover, was also launched.
