Pets will now be welcome at restaurants and hotels all over the Emirate, thanks to a new law
If you have furry friends at home and it breaks your heart every time you go out to dinner and leave them behind, then this one is for you.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has announced an amendment to the law concerning animals in public spaces.
Thanks to this, hotels and restaurants with tourism licenses in the Emirate can now welcome guests and their pets.
But while the law has changed, it will be up to the venues to decide if they want to become pet-friendly.
And if they do, they have to meet certain requirements, such as having a designated area for them, and making sure that having pets at the venue does not compromise the establishment’s health and safety standards.

The announcement reads: “Venues that choose to admit companion animals should allocate specific areas for them, primarily in open-air spaces such as outdoor seating or balconies.
“They must also provide suitable indoor or enclosed zones in line with their policies; ensuring health and safety standards are not compromised nor the animals’ welfare – all while balancing the comfort of guests and the maintenance of a pet-friendly environment.”
Until now, regulations across the Emirate meant that pets were prohibited at restaurants, except for certified service animals.
But since it’s down to the venue to decide whether they will admit furry friends or not, it’s better to check your next dinner reservation before you pick up that leash.
