The Perseids meteor shower returns for a dazzling display over the desert
Abu Dhabi stargazers, your annual date with the cosmos is back.
Known for producing up to 100 shooting stars per hour, the Perseids are among the brightest and most active meteor showers of the year – and this year, the peak will happen between Wednesday, 12 August and Thursday, 13 August.

Al Quaa Milky Way Spot
Located roughly 90 minutes from Abu Dhabi city, Al Quaa is famous for its incredibly low light pollution, so much so that it’s been unofficially dubbed “the UAE’s window to the galaxy”.

Bring a blanket, snacks, and your camera, or just lie back and enjoy the cosmic show. Expect bright fireballs, frequent shooting stars, and that awe-struck feeling only nature can deliver.
Al Khatim Desert, Abu Dhabi
If you prefer to do your stargazing with professional guidance, Dubai Astronomy are hosting an event at Al Khatim Desert on Wednesday 12 August, from 11pm to 3am. As well as the meteor shower, they will also help you observe Saturn, deep-sky objects and Comet 10P/Tempel 2 with their telescopes. Tickets cost AED 180 for adults and AED 160 for children under 13, and you can purchase them via their official website.
