The Perseids return on 12 August for a dazzling display over the desert
Abu Dhabi stargazers, your annual date with the cosmos is back!
The Perseid meteor shower is set to peak on the night of 12 August, and the Al Quaa Milky Way Spot, one of the darkest places in the UAE, is the place to see it.
Known for producing up to 100 shooting stars per hour, the Perseids are among the brightest and most active meteor showers of the year.
This year’s shower is especially promising with minimal moonlight to obscure your view, meaning conditions are near perfect.
Where to Go: Al Quaa Milky Way Spot
Located roughly 90 minutes from Abu Dhabi city, Al Quaa is famous for its incredibly low light pollution, so much so that it’s been unofficially dubbed “the UAE’s window to the galaxy.”
