Planning a quick escape to Oman? It could soon get a whole lot easier.
Oman has introduced a free 14-day tourist visa for travellers from selected nationalities, with the new entry permit coming into effect from 3 August 2026.
However, there’s one important catch: officials have not yet revealed which nationalities qualify, so travellers will need to wait for further guidance from the Royal Oman Police.
Oman free tourist visa: What we know so far
Under Decision 109/2026, eligible visitors will be able to apply for a 14-day tourist visa at no cost. While the visa itself is free, travellers will still need to submit an application and meet all immigration requirements before travelling.
The visa is designed specifically for tourism and offers a convenient option for short breaks, weekend getaways and regional holidays.
If you decide to stay longer, you can apply to switch to another tourist visa before your 14-day permit expires. Standard visa conditions and fees will apply for the new category, and approval is subject to immigration authorities.
Who is eligible for the free Oman visa?
Oman has not yet announced which nationalities are included in the free visa initiative, so we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out who will have access to it.
How to apply for the Oman tourist visa
Once applications open for eligible nationalities, the process is expected to be straightforward:
- Check if your nationality qualifies through the Royal Oman Police eVisa service.
- Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months.
- Create an account or log in to the official Oman eVisa portal.
- Select the new 14-day tourist visa option (if available for your nationality).
- Complete the application and upload any required documents.
- Submit your application – there’s no visa fee for this category.
- Track your application online and travel only after receiving approval.
Although the visa carries no application fee, this is not visa-free travel. Visitors must still apply for and receive approval before entering Oman.
Authorities have also not confirmed application processing times, document requirements or the list of eligible countries.
Great news for UAE travellers
The announcement is particularly exciting for travellers in the UAE, which remains Oman’s largest source market.
According to Oman’s National Centre for Statistics and Information, more than 1.12 million visitors travelled from the UAE to Oman during 2025, helping the country welcome almost four million international visitors overall.
With its dramatic mountains, pristine beaches, desert adventures and charming heritage towns, Oman continues to be one of the region’s favourite destinations for quick getaways.
More details, including the list of eligible nationalities and application procedures, are expected to be announced by the Royal Oman Police in the coming weeks.
