Speculation grows that Abu Dhabi may follow to ease prayer-time parking challenges
As Dubai prepares to roll out its new mosque parking management system this August, all eyes are now on Abu Dhabi, and speculation is building that the capital may be next in line to implement a similar initiative.
The recently announced system in Dubai introduces managed parking across 59 mosques, with around 2,100 spaces and one hour of free access during prayer times, designed to tackle long-standing congestion issues for worshippers.
With community feedback already looking positive in Dubai, urban planners and residents in Abu Dhabi are beginning to ask: Could we see something similar here?
While no official confirmation has been made, several mosques in central and high-density areas of Abu Dhabi, such as in Al Khalidiyah, Al Mushrif, and Al Danah, often face similar parking pressures, especially during Friday and evening prayers.
Local worshippers regularly report circling for 10–15 minutes just to find a legal spot, with some risking fines or parking in unauthorised zones.

If Abu Dhabi were to adopt a similar model, it could bring structured improvements to mosque parking, including:
- Dedicated prayer-time parking windows
- Clear signage and marked zones
- Digital guidance or mobile notifications
- Enhanced traffic flow around religious sites
The initiative could potentially fall under Abu Dhabi’s broader Smart City and sustainable mobility plans, integrating mosque parking with existing systems like Mawaqif and the capital’s intelligent transport infrastructure.
Residents and mosque attendees are welcoming the idea, with many citing the success of temporary or unofficial parking marshals during high-attendance times like Ramadan.
Formalising such efforts would mean less stress before prayer, reduced traffic build-up, and better accessibility for the elderly and families.
Whether this idea becomes policy or remains just wishful thinking, one thing is clear; Abu Dhabi is watching closely as Dubai’s system goes live. If the results are positive, Abu Dhabi’s own mosque parking update may be only a prayer away.
