If you’re already thinking about long weekends, family time, and maybe even a mini escape, here’s some good news: Eid al‑Fitr 2026 is shaping up to be a delightful break in the UAE public holiday 2026 calendar, at the end of Ramadan in Abu Dhabi.
Eid al‑Fitr marks the joyful end of Ramadan, the Holy Month of fasting and reflection, and the exact date depends on the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
The official announcement comes just a day or two beforehand, but astronomers and holiday forecasts are already giving us a good idea of what to expect.
So how many days can we expect off for Eid al-Fitr?
Now that we know the start date of Ramadan (18 February), there are two options for the start date of Eid al-Fitr.
- If Ramadan is a 29-day month, Eid al-Fitr will start on Thursday 19 March, and stretch for three days until Saturday 21 March. Since Sundays are part of the official UAE weekends, this means a four-day weekend for most.
- If Ramadan is a full 30-day month, UAE public‑holiday rules say the final day of Ramadan (Thursday, 19 March) becomes part of the Eid break too. This means Eid al-Fitr would be celebrated from Friday, 20 March to Sunday 22 March, but Thursday, 19 March would also be a day off – also meaning a four-day weekend.
