It’s all part of a bigger push to improve traffic flow and ease up around the city
Abu Dhabi is changing Darb toll gate timings and ditching the daily and monthly caps starting today, Monday, 1 September.
Starting Monday, 1 September, drivers will need to keep an eye on the clock, and their wallets, as new toll timings kick in and the caps on charges get scrapped.
New evening hours
Right now, Darb tolls are in effect during the evening from 5pm to 7pm. But come September, that window will stretch out, you’ll be charged between 3pm and 7pm, Monday through Saturday.
Morning timings are staying the same, though.
The good news? Sundays and public holidays will still be toll-free, so weekend road trips are safe (for now).
Say goodbye to daily and monthly caps
Currently, there’s a max of AED16 per day and a monthly limit of AED200 for your first vehicle (less for second and third vehicles).

But those limits will no longer apply. Instead, you’ll be charged AED4 each time you pass through a toll gate, with no cap.
So, if you’re zipping in and out of the city a lot, expect the tolls to add up.
Who still gets exemptions?
Not all drivers will be affected. If you fall under certain groups, like People of Determination, low-income families, senior citizens, or retirees, the current exemptions stay in place.
Why the change? According to the Integrated Transport Centre, it’s all part of a bigger push to improve traffic flow and ease up congestion on major roads during rush hour.
If you’re new to Darb: the system’s been around since 2021 and manages eight toll gates on key bridges in and out of Abu Dhabi city.
