Food reduction in Abu Dhabi has become a real issue according to ADCM

In a collaborative effort led by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, a transformative food reduction awareness campaign has been launched to combat the rampant issue of food waste within its jurisdiction.

This campaign has been launched at the same time as ne’ma, the UAE National Food Loss and Waste Initiative, announced the launch of its nationwide Ramadan campaign, ‘Count Your ne’ ma’, which aims to raise awareness and encourage actionable steps to reduce food loss and waste during the holy month.

The latest campaign by ADCM sees them teaming up with sub-centres and partnering with the Emirates Red Crescent Authority’s ‘Preservation of Grace Project,’ with the campaign set to alter community attitudes towards food consumption.

With a dual focus on fostering a culture of generosity and highlighting the detrimental impacts of food waste on both the economy and the environment, this initiative aims to promote mindful consumption practices aligned with sustainable development goals.

Through strategic messaging emphasising the importance of prudent purchasing, portion control, and resource conservation, the campaign seeks to empower individuals to make informed choices that benefit both society and the planet.

Moreover, the campaign facilitates the redistribution of surplus food through the ‘Preservation of Grace’ Project, ensuring that excess provisions reach those in need.

Through innovative dissemination channels such as social media platforms and the Freejna application, the campaign reaches diverse audiences, inspiring collective action towards a more sustainable future.

Join Abu Dhabi in its mission to combat food waste and pave the way for a greener, more compassionate society.
