If you’re a bit of a history buff, we’ve got some exciting news coming your way.

Abu Dhabi has rolled out a community-driven initiative aimed at strengthening visitor experiences across some of the emirate’s most prominent cultural landmarks, while reinforcing the role of volunteering in creating meaningful social impact.

Launched by the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, an affiliate of the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the programme brings together residents who have stepped forward to support international visitors during a period of travel disruptions.

At the heart of the initiative is a volunteer network that has been actively guiding guests through key cultural destinations on Saadiyat Island, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum, and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi.

So far, around 280 volunteers have dedicated an impressive 2,240 hours to the programme, helping visitors navigate sites, understand exhibitions, and make the most of their time in Abu Dhabi.

Their presence has helped create a more welcoming environment for international guests, turning what could have been disrupted travel plans into more positive and memorable experiences.

Officials have highlighted the initiative as a strong reflection of Abu Dhabi’s community values.

Her Excellency Maysa Al Nuwais, Executive Director of the Community Engagement and Volunteering Sector at Ma’an, said the programme reflects a commitment to ensuring that both residents and visitors feel supported, while building a culture rooted in compassion, solidarity, and inclusivity.

She emphasised that the efforts of volunteers demonstrate the emirate’s wider spirit of generosity and social cohesion.

From the cultural side, His Excellency Saeed Ali Al Fazari, Executive Director of Strategic Affairs at DCT Abu Dhabi, noted that the initiative shows how culture and community can work hand in hand.

He highlighted that volunteers are not only assisting visitors but also sharing the identity and hospitality that define Abu Dhabi, reinforcing the emirate’s reputation as a welcoming global destination.

The initiative also opens the door for more residents to get involved, with prospective volunteers encouraged to sign up and contribute their time to future programmes.
