Wednesday, 18 February 2026, will mark the first day of Ramadan in the UAE
The UAE has confirmed that Ramadan will begin on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, following the official crescent moon sighting by the UAE’s moon-sighting committee.
The announcement comes as residents prepare to welcome the Holy Month, a time for reflection, prayer, and family gatherings across the country.
In Abu Dhabi, the city’s pace naturally softens during Ramadan, with working hours in both public and private sectors adjusted to accommodate the rhythm of the season.
Streets and neighbourhoods take on a more tranquil character, offering residents a chance to connect with loved ones and embrace the spiritual essence of the month.

Traffic updates
Motorists should be aware of a few changes to make commuting smoother as earlier today Q Mobility confirmed updated timings for the Darb toll system and Mawaqif paid parking across the capital.
Toll charges on Darb gates will now apply Monday to Saturday in two windows: from 8am to 10am (up from 7am–9am) and 2pm to 6pm (up from 3pm–7pm). Outside these periods, motorists can pass through tolls free of charge, and Sundays remain toll-free, ideal for family outings or iftar trips.
Paid parking under the Mawaqif system will operate in split shifts during Ramadan: Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm, and then again from 9pm to 2am. Between 6pm and 9pm, parking is free, allowing residents to enjoy Iftar without worrying about fees. As usual, parking remains free on Sundays.
With the crescent sighting confirming the start of Ramadan and adjusted traffic and parking measures in place, Abu Dhabi is ready for a smooth, reflective, and community-focused Holy Month.
