New parking rules in Mohamed Bin Zayed City aim to ease congestion, improve accessibility, and bring smarter traffic management
Abu Dhabi has introduced a new paid parking system in parts of Mohamed Bin Zayed City from 6 April, as part of wider efforts to improve traffic flow and make better use of high-demand parking areas.
The new system will initially cover several busy commercial and residential-adjacent zones, with around 11,030 parking spaces brought under regulation.
These include key sectors such as ME10 and ME11, along with parts of surrounding villa districts where parking demand has steadily increased due to rising commercial activity and daily commuter traffic.
Under the new rules, motorists will pay AED2 per hour for secondary parking spaces. Payments will be made through multiple digital channels, including the DARB app, the TAMM app, SMS services, or on-site payment machines, offering flexibility for residents and visitors.
Alongside paid parking, the plan introduces permit-only residential parking in certain villa zones.

This is designed to prioritise residents’ access to parking near their homes and reduce congestion caused by long-term or non-resident vehicle use in densely populated streets.
Authorities have also highlighted improvements in accessibility, including dedicated spaces for People of Determination, as part of a broader push toward more inclusive and organised urban mobility.
The initiative is supported by new infrastructure upgrades, including the addition of multi-storey parking facilities in select sectors, helping to further ease pressure on high-traffic areas.
Together, these measures aim to reduce illegal parking, improve road safety, and create a smoother flow of vehicles across one of Abu Dhabi’s busiest suburban districts.
Overall, the rollout reflects a wider strategy to modernise parking management in the capital, balancing the needs of residents, businesses, and daily commuters while supporting a more efficient and sustainable urban environment.
