Abu Dhabi topped global safety rankings once again
The capital has been named the safest city in the world for solo travellers, according to a new global study by long-haul travel specialists Travelbag, based on data from the Numbeo Crime Index.
The UAE capital ranked first overall after analysing 36 international destinations, achieving an exceptional safety score of 92 during the day and 87 at night.
The findings place Abu Dhabi at the top of the global safety table, ahead of cities such as Dubai, Chiang Mai and Muscat.
The study drew on Numbeo’s crowdsourced crime and safety data, which measures perceptions of safety, levels of crime, theft, assault and property-related incidents, alongside travel-related factors such as affordability and ease of transport.
Abu Dhabi was praised for its calm atmosphere, strong security presence and safe late-night environment, making it particularly appealing for people travelling alone.
Well-lit streets, efficient public transport and a consistently low crime rate allow solo visitors to explore the city with confidence at all hours.
With solo travel continuing to surge globally, safety remains the top priority for independent travellers, an area where Abu Dhabi continues to set the global benchmark.
This latest achievement adds to a growing number of accolades received by the city in recent times. In 2025, the capital stood out on the global stage not just for safety but also for happiness, two distinctions that make it one of the world’s most desirable cities to live in or visit.
According to the latest Numbeo data, Abu Dhabi was ranked the world’s safest city for the ninth consecutive year, topping safety rankings among hundreds of international cities and reflecting its robust security infrastructure, community‑focused policing and consistently low crime levels.
In the same year, the emirate was also named the world’s happiest city in another global city survey, where nearly all residents reported high levels of contentment, positivity and joy in everyday life.
