Capital plays host to another successful MADO tennis event

Elena Rybakina claimed victory at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open tennis event yesterday

Elena Rybakina claimed victory at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, securing a dominant 6-1, 6-4 win over Daria Kasatkina.

The event’s second edition concluded with a sell-out crowd witnessing the singles and doubles finals at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City. Rybakina’s remarkable journey saw her overcome top contenders en route to the final.

She dominated the first set, breaking Kasatkina early and maintaining control. While Kasatkina responded well in the second set, Rybakina secured a crucial break at 4-4, ultimately sealing her triumph.

In the doubles category, American duo Sofia Kenin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands overcame disruptions from rain to defeat Linda Noskova and Heather Watson. Despite rain interruptions in the first set, Kenin and Mattek-Sands secured a 6-4 victory, clinching the trophy in a tense tie-break during the second set.

The tournament, beyond its competitive edge, fostered community engagement through initiatives like the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Schools Program. The event’s success affirmed Abu Dhabi’s global sports destination status, with officials expressing gratitude to participants, fans, and partners.

The closing ceremony featured children from the schools programme, creating magical memories, while the Fan Village offered live musical performances, marking the end of a captivating Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open.
