Abu Dhabi rolls out a new system aimed at improving traffic flow and access
Motorists in Mohamed Bin Zayed City should prepare for a change in how they park, with a new paid parking system coming into effect from 6 May across key commercial areas.
The rollout, announced by Q Mobility, is part of a wider plan to better manage congestion and make parking more predictable for daily users.
The update will apply specifically to commercial sectors ME9 and ME12, where demand for parking is consistently high due to offices, shops, and service outlets.
For drivers, this means fewer chances of finding random or blocked spaces, and a more structured system designed to keep turnover moving throughout the day.
Parking will be charged at AED2 per hour for standard spaces. Payments can be made through familiar digital channels, including the DARB and TAMM apps, as well as SMS and on-site payment machines.

This gives drivers flexibility depending on how they prefer to pay, whether they’re stopping briefly or staying longer.
In total, the phase introduces over 10,000 parking spaces, including a number of clearly marked bays for People of Determination.
The goal is to make parking more accessible while reducing the kind of informal parking that often blocks roads or disrupts traffic flow.
For regular commuters and visitors, the biggest shift will be planning ahead, allowing a few extra minutes to find a space, pay, and avoid fines.
However, the expectation is that the system will ultimately save time by reducing congestion and making spaces easier to find in busy periods.

This move builds on earlier phases already introduced in the area. Initial regulation began in December 2025 without fees, followed by paid parking in nearby sectors such as ME10 and ME11 in April 2026.
Those changes have already led to smoother traffic movement and better organisation in high-demand zones.
Overall, the new system is aimed at creating a more efficient, user-friendly parking experience in one of Abu Dhabi’s busiest residential and commercial districts.
