Flying taxis in Abu Dhabi are set to become normal with commercial launch due in 2026

Abu Dhabi has completed its first successful flying taxi test flight at Al Bateen Executive Airport, marking a major step toward launching air taxi services in the UAE.

The test was conducted by US-based Archer Aviation in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO).

The flight showcased Archer’s Midnight aircraft, which uses vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) technology.

The current testing phase will run through the summer to evaluate performance under Abu Dhabi’s extreme heat, humidity, and dust conditions.

Following the test phase, the aircraft will begin flying over the city, with full commercial services expected to launch in early 2026.

Archer plans to deploy a small fleet initially, supported by dedicated vertiports and airspace integration.

Manufacturing is set to begin in Al Ain by 2027, with plans to export flying taxis across the region.

Officials also confirmed that pricing will be affordable, aiming to make this futuristic mode of travel accessible for daily use; not just luxury.

This test flight comes just days after a similar successful launch by Joby Aviation in Dubai, highlighting the UAE’s race to lead the region in urban air mobility.
