Abu Dhabi is set to expand its global travel links with the launch of a new direct route from Guwahati in north-eastern India, starting 4 August.
Operated by Air India, the new service opens up a fresh and convenient connection between the UAE capital and one of India’s most culturally rich and naturally diverse regions.
For Abu Dhabi residents, it also means easier access to a completely different side of India.
From Assam’s rolling tea plantations and sweeping river landscapes to the wildlife-filled national parks and vibrant cultural traditions of the wider north-east, the region offers a strong appeal for travellers looking for something beyond the usual holiday hotspots.
It’s an ideal option for nature lovers, family visits and those seeking more off-the-beaten-track travel experiences.
Until now, journeys to this part of India typically required connections through major hubs such as Delhi or Kolkata. The new direct service removes that extra step, making travel smoother and more accessible in both directions.
The launch further strengthens Abu Dhabi’s position as a key global aviation hub, particularly along the busy UAE–India travel corridor.
It supports a wide mix of travel needs, from leisure trips and family visits to business and workforce movement between the two regions.
It also improves access for travellers from across north-eastern India, including states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim.
