Police roll out safety patrols and awareness drives as the new academic year begins
Abu Dhabi Police are sending out a clear message to all drivers: ease up on the accelerator near schools.
The new maximum speed is just 30km/h around school zones, and it’s there for one simple reason, to keep kids safe.
Seven simple rules to follow
To make school runs smoother and safer, police have shared a quick checklist for drivers:
Put the phone down – no distractions
Stick to the speed limit (yep, 30km/h!)
Go extra slow near stop signs and side lanes
Respect all traffic signals
Keep an eye out for little pedestrians
Expect the unexpected – kids can be unpredictable
Park only in designated spots (no random stopping, please!)

More patrols
With the new academic year kicking off, expect to see more police patrols at intersections and busy roads
They’re out there to keep traffic flowing, help school buses get in and out safely, and make sure kids can cross the street without stress.
There’s also a big push on awareness campaigns to remind everyone that road safety starts with us.
A note for parents
Parents, you’re part of this too.
Police are asking you to watch your kids closely and always stop completely when a school bus stop arm is out; it’s a simple move that protects children crossing the road.
