UAE tops global ranking for women’s safety

Qatar was the only other GCC country in the top 10.

Women feel safer in the UAE than any other country in the planet, that’s according to a recently published survey.

The report carried out by Georgetown University revealed that the UAE ranked first in terms of community safety with 98.5 per cent of women stating they felt safe walking alone in their neighbourhoods at night.

Singapore was placed second on the list with Afghanistan ranking in last place.

The index plotted the percentage of women aged 15 and older who reported if they felt safe walking alone at night in the city or area in which they lived.

The third edition of the Women, Peace and Security Index, the survey gives insight into the changing patterns in women’s empowerment across the globe.

According to the researchers, the safety perception was critical to a woman’s mobility and influenced her ability to look for opportunities outside the home.

Qatar was the only other GCC country that was put in the top ten.

The news follows on from Abu Dhabi being named as the safest city in the world in March.

Sharjah was listed in sixth with Dubai being placed seventh as safest cities in the world.
