Young footballers from around the world will head to capital
The Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup is set to return in January 2027 for its biggest edition yet, with more teams, a bigger tournament experience and an increased focus on girls’ football.
Taking place from 8 to 10 January 2027 at Zayed Sports City, the eighth edition will bring young footballers from the UAE and around the world together across eight age groups.
According to information published by Manchester City, the tournament will feature boys’ competitions from U8 through to U16, while girls’ teams will compete in the U12, U14 and U16 categories. The number of girls’ teams taking part is also expected to increase for the 2027 edition.
The tournament has grown year-on-year, following a record-breaking 2026 event, and this time around there will be more opportunities for players and coaches to get involved both on and off the pitch.
There will also be a few new prizes up for grabs, including Goal of the Tournament and the Etihad Player of the Tournament, alongside the usual team trophies.
And winning could come with an even bigger reward. Manchester City says all victorious teams will be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a trip to one of the clubs within the City Football Group.
The prize includes training at a professional facility and the opportunity to watch a first-team match.
For teams travelling to Abu Dhabi from overseas, the tournament also offers plenty to do away from the football pitch.
Participants can explore some of the capital’s major attractions, including Yas Waterworld, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
The event is supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Experience Abu Dhabi, with thousands of players, coaches and families expected to descend on the capital for the three-day football festival.
Manchester City describes the Abu Dhabi Cup as its largest international football event globally, with limited places still available for teams from the UAE and overseas.
Simon Hewitt, Tournament Director and Director of Football Operations MENA, said the tournament gives boys and girls the chance to showcase their skills at Zayed Sports City while also enjoying a festival-style experience and meeting players from around the world.
He added that the event supports Manchester City’s wider commitment to encouraging young people to get active and helping develop grassroots football.
