And the new dates have also been revealed
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is getting a serious upgrade in 2027, with Yas Marina Circuit set to host its first-ever Formula 1 Sprint race from 10-12 December next year.
The new Sprint is part of the newly announced 2027 F1 calendar, which will feature 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries, alongside a record 10 Sprint events throughout the season.
For fans heading to Yas Marina for the season finale next year, that means even more on-track action across the weekend, with Abu Dhabi joining Bahrain, Australia, Japan and Monaco as new Sprint venues.
The Sprint format will also return to Montréal, Silverstone, Monza, São Paulo and Lusail.
The Sprint format is designed to add another competitive race to selected Grand Prix weekends, giving drivers another chance to fight for championship points before the main event on Sunday.
And 2027 will be a particularly busy year for the format, with the number of Sprint events increasing from six to 10.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the expanded calendar reflects the “global appeal and continued growth” of Formula 1, while bringing together “tradition, innovation, and fan engagement”.
He added that the new calendar would continue to maintain the “highest sporting standards” as F1 expands its global reach.
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali also welcomed the expanded Sprint programme, saying it would give fans “even more intensity, drama, and the wheel-to-wheel action” that makes the sport so popular.
Abu Dhabi will once again have the final say on the F1 season, with the 2027 calendar ending in the UAE after races in Austin, Mexico City, São Paulo, Las Vegas and Qatar.
Before the championship arrives at Yas Marina, the 2027 season will get underway in Bahrain, following pre-season testing at the circuit from 24 to 27 February.
The opening rounds then head to Saudi Arabia, Australia, Japan and China before moving through Miami and Canada.
There are also some familiar destinations returning to the calendar. Portugal is back in June, while Türkiye returns in October, sitting between Azerbaijan and Singapore.
The final run of races will then take F1 to the Americas before the championship heads to Qatar and finally Abu Dhabi.
The addition of the Sprint gives fans another reason to head to Yas Marina, with the Abu Dhabi season finale now set to feature an extra competitive race alongside the usual Grand Prix action.
And with Abu Dhabi already known for bringing the F1 season to a big finish, the 2027 edition looks set to have a little more going on when the cars hit the circuit.
So, if you thought Abu Dhabi’s F1 weekend was already busy enough, 2027 is about to add another race to the mix.
