People can now register for Accident-Free Day on 31 August
Got a few black points you’d rather see in the rear-view mirror? If you drive safely on 31 August you could get four knocked off your record.
The UAE’s annual Accident-Free Day initiative returns this August, giving drivers the chance to have four black traffic points removed from their records simply by committing to safer driving on the first day of the new school year.
And yes, there is a little paperwork involved.
How does it work?
Registration opens on 17 August, with motorists required to sign a safety pledge through the Ministry of Interior’s channels.
Then comes the important bit: on 31 August, you need to actually stick to the rules.
That means obeying speed limits, particularly around schools, avoiding your phone while driving, staying in your lane and keeping a safe distance from the car ahead.
You’ll also need to give pedestrians priority at crossings and, naturally, avoid accidents and traffic violations.
In other words: drive like your mum is sitting in the passenger seat.
Why 31 August?
The first day back at school can turn UAE roads into a bit of a traffic jungle, with parents, school buses and commuters all hitting the roads at the same time.
The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Interior through the Federal Traffic Council, aims to make that first day safer while encouraging drivers to turn good habits into an everyday thing.
And there’s plenty at stake. Drivers can accumulate up to 24 black points before their licence can be suspended, so four points back can certainly make a difference.
So, how do you sign up?
Drivers can register from 17 August using the link published on the Ministry of Interior’s social media channels and sign the Accident-Free Day pledge.
More than 300,000 drivers signed up in 2025, so you certainly won’t be the only one hoping to make those points disappear.
Just remember: signing up isn’t enough, you have to keep your driving record squeaky clean on 31 August to qualify for the four-point reduction.
A safer drive, fewer black points? Now that’s a pretty good school-day bonus.
