New exhibition traces centuries of trade, travel and cultural exchange
Louvre Abu Dhabi is set to open Spices and Wonders: Sailing the Indian Ocean from 14 October 2026 to 14 February 2027, offering a fascinating look at the maritime networks that shaped the ancient world.
Created in partnership with France’s National Museum of Asian Arts – Guimet, the exhibition explores how the Indian Ocean connected Africa, the Middle East, Europe, South Asia and Southeast Asia for centuries.
Spanning from Antiquity to the 17th century, visitors will discover remarkable objects including spices, textiles, ceramics and historic artefacts that travelled these legendary sea routes.
Together, they reveal how commerce, exploration and cultural exchange transformed societies long before the modern era.
Curated by experts from Louvre Abu Dhabi and the National Museum of Asian Arts – Guimet, the exhibition brings together scholarship and storytelling in one immersive experience.
Following its Abu Dhabi run, the exhibition will travel to Paris in 2027, reinforcing Louvre Abu Dhabi’s role in bringing globally significant cultural experiences to the UAE.
