Families in Abu Dhabi now have a new place to turn for specialist mental health support, with the launch of SAKINA for Children in partnership with PureHealth.

Created specifically for children and teenagers up to the age of 18, the new service is designed to make accessing mental health care easier, more personalised and better connected for families across the emirate.

The launch comes as part of the UAE’s ‘Year of the Family,’ placing a spotlight on the importance of supporting young people early and helping families access the care they need before challenges become more complex.

SAKINA for Children is all about providing tailored support for every child, recognising that no two young people experience mental health or developmental needs in exactly the same way.

Families will be able to access a wide range of services under one roof, including child and adolescent psychiatry, developmental paediatrics, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, behavioural support and family-focused psychological services.

The facilities themselves have been designed with children in mind, featuring sensory therapy areas, specialist treatment rooms, dedicated clinics, inclusive play spaces and inpatient units for those requiring more intensive care and support.

A major focus of the programme is creating treatment plans that feel genuinely personal. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, care is tailored around each child’s age, development, individual needs and family circumstances.

For children facing more significant mental health challenges, the service also offers specialist inpatient care designed to provide a safe, structured and supportive environment.

These programmes support young people experiencing psychiatric conditions as well as neurodiverse children who may benefit from more intensive therapeutic intervention and ongoing specialist care.

The service follows internationally recognised clinical standards and uses evidence-based assessment tools to support diagnoses and treatment planning for conditions including autism spectrum disorder and ADHD.

Once fully operational, SAKINA for Children will have the capacity to support up to 500 children every month.

Services will be available in Arabic, English, Hindi, Urdu and Malayalam, helping ensure families from Abu Dhabi’s diverse communities can access support in a language they feel comfortable with.

The initiative also forms part of the wider SAKINA mental health network, which already includes specialist clinics, mental health hubs, inpatient facilities and neurodiversity centres across Abu Dhabi.

Beyond clinical care, the programme will also work closely with schools and community organisations through workshops, awareness campaigns and educational programmes designed to encourage earlier conversations around children’s mental wellbeing.

As awareness around mental health continues to grow across the UAE, the arrival of SAKINA for Children represents another positive step towards making specialist support more accessible, reducing barriers to care and helping young people receive the support they need to thrive.
