A powerful celebration of confidence, creativity, and self-expression
PARTNER CONTENT: Yas Mall’s Town Square was transformed into a vibrant runway as it hosted the Zayed Authority for People of Determination x Aldar: Down Syndrome Fashion Show, a celebration that brings together creativity, inclusion, and community spirit as part of their inclusion awareness efforts.
The event featured 20 talented students with Down syndrome in a powerful celebration of confidence, creativity, and self-expression.
Zayed Authority plays a central role in providing educational and social services that promote inclusion, raise awareness of rights, and empower People of Determination across Abu Dhabi, ensuring they are actively supported in both learning and community life.
This year’s fashion show – it’s second edition- builds on the success of its inaugural event in 2025, and featured outfits curated by Ether alongside other local designers, blending contemporary fashion with purposeful inclusion.
From the moment the show began, the runway became more than a fashion showcase. It turned into a space of visibility, confidence, and self-expression, where each student stepped forward with pride and individuality.
Each look was brought to life through movement, personality, and presence. The runway became a shared space where individuality is not only seen, but genuinely celebrated.
The significance of the event is further strengthened by Yas Mall’s wider commitment to accessibility.
The mall has become the first in the Middle East to join the globally recognised Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme, delivered in collaboration with the Zayed Authority for People of Determination and supported by Topland, the programme’s exclusive regional partner.
Through this initiative, staff are trained to recognise the Sunflower lanyard and offer discreet, enhanced support for visitors with non-visible disabilities, embedding inclusion directly into the visitor experience.
More than just a fashion moment, the show also reflects a wider vision shared by Aldar and the Zayed Authority: creating platforms that unlock potential, amplify voices, and ensure inclusion is not treated as a gesture, but as a standard.
The presence of senior represnetatives fro Aldar, alongside the General Secretary of the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination further reinforces this commitment to meaningful representation across public spaces.
As the final walk unfolded, the runway filled with applause – warm, sustained, and heartfelt. It is a moment that goes beyond fashion, capturing something deeper: a community coming together to celebrate ability, creativity, and belonging in its most authentic form.
