The event brings together global experts to explore the role of AI in advancing climate and environmental services
From 9 to 11 September 2025, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) is teaming up with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) to host a first-of-its-kind workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Weather Prediction and Environmental Services.
The event will take place at NCM’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
This high-level event aims to advance the use of AI in meteorology by gathering a diverse mix of global experts from public institutions, private companies, and academia.
The workshop will serve as a collaborative platform to explore how AI can enhance forecasting systems, environmental monitoring, and early warning capabilities.

Participants will discuss the integration of AI with environmental data, strategies to strengthen national and global weather services, and ways to improve hazard warnings and operational efficiency.
The workshop will also examine how to close the digital divide, especially for least developed countries and small island states.
A key focus will be on evaluating and standardising AI training datasets, improving model compatibility, and encouraging open-source development.
The workshop will also highlight innovative methods for environmental data collection and forecasting, with special emphasis on sustainability and service reliability.
In addition to technical topics, discussions will address the roles of stakeholders across the hydro-meteorological value chain and explore new frameworks for public-private-academic cooperation.
Outcomes from the workshop will contribute to the upcoming WMO Extraordinary Congress in October, where industry-wide strategies for AI integration in meteorology will be further shaped.
This initiative underscores the UAE’s leadership in environmental innovation and supports the nation’s broader goals of technological advancement, climate resilience, and strategic data-driven decision-making.
Hosting the event in Abu Dhabi reinforces the country’s role as a global hub for science, innovation, and climate action.
