Flying taxis are coming! Abu Dhabi’s first vertiports are set for Yas Island, Al Bateen and Khalifa Port

The future of transport in Abu Dhabi is about to take off…literally.

Flying taxis are coming to the capital, and now we know where you’ll be able to hop on board.

The city’s first vertiports are set to be built in Yas Island, Al Bateen, and Khalifa Port, paving the way for a high-tech, high-flying transport revolution.

Picture this: instead of sitting in traffic, you’ll be soaring above the city in an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, getting from A to B in a fraction of the time.

The big reveal came at the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) 2025, where Abu Dhabi-based LODD, an AI-powered aerial logistics company, teamed up with Skyports Infrastructure to showcase their futuristic vertiport designs.

These stations will serve as launchpads for both passenger services and autonomous cargo deliveries, reducing congestion and cutting travel times.

With 14 potential sites assessed, Yas Island, Al Bateen and Khalifa Port have been selected as the first three hubs, and construction is set to start in 2026.

The goal?

A citywide network of vertiports that could make flying taxis as common as booking a ride-hailing service.

Rashid Al Mannai, CEO of LODD, said Abu Dhabi serves as a global model for air mobility, thanks to its progressive systems.

He added that these vertiports will lay the foundation for a future-ready air mobility network, supporting both commercial eVTOL passenger services and autonomous aerial logistics.

Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports, said the unveiling of these designs and signing of an MOU highlight the progress being made to define and develop Abu Dhabi’s advanced air mobility network.

He emphasised that cargo is just as important as passenger transport, and this network will bring huge benefits to both people and businesses.

So, keep your eyes on the skies because Abu Dhabi’s transport game is about to reach new heights.
