Gulf’s artistic pulse unveiled in ‘Between the Tides’

Between the Tides: A Gulf Quinquennial explores the GCC’s evolving art scene with works from 21 artists and collectives across the region, including the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.
Running until 8 December 2024, this exhibition highlights visual arts, architecture, and design in painting, video, installation, and sculpture.
Co-curated by Maya Allison, Executive Director of the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery and Duygu Demir, it reflects the Gulf’s unique cultural rhythms and explores themes of heritage, identity, and environmental change, blending emerging talents with renowned voices.

Mandé heritage, music and Dance unleashed
Thursday 16 January 2025, 7.30pm
Immerse yourself in the rich folklore of the Mandé peoples of West Africa with “Hakili Koura: A New Mentality.” Led by visionary Yahael Camara Onono and his Balimaya Project sextet, this unique evening combines song, dance, and cultural exploration. With Sonzi on guitar, Jali Bakary Konteh on kora, Jonathan Moko on bass, Aboubacar Konaté on dounoun, and Aida Diop in dance, it’s a powerful celebration of Mandé traditions.
Honouring ancient customs while sharing them through fresh perspectives, the performance promises to enlighten and captivate.

New Abu Dhabi art gallery debuts
Iris Projects is opening its contemporary gallery in Abu Dhabi’s cultural hub, MiZa, on 20 November 2024.
Located in the creative space of M_39 in Mina Zayed, the launch coincided with Abu Dhabi Art, featuring a debut exhibition by Emirati artist Alyazia Al Nahyan, curated by Nadine Khalil.
Founded by Maryam Al Falasi, Iris Projects champions Middle Eastern artists, bridging regional talent with global audiences through exhibitions, panels, and artist-led tours.
