The 22 short screenings will be hosted by The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi
A collection of short movies depicting the reality of the war in Gaza is being hosted by The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, 5 November.
From Ground Zero, a groundbreaking film project, unites 22 short films by talented Gaza-based filmmakers, showcasing their stories on screen.
The collection, curated by the renowned Palestinian filmmaker Rashid Masharawi, isn’t just a series of cinematic moments; it’s a mosaic of life, resilience, and creativity, born amidst a backdrop of conflict.
Masharawi’s vision was to create a platform for young filmmakers in Gaza, giving them a chance to express their lived experiences in their own voices.
The result? Films that are brief yet potent, with each one lasting between 3 to 6 minutes. Collectively, they offer a rare, unfiltered glimpse into Gaza’s daily realities; from moments of profound sorrow to snapshots of unexpected joy, hope, and humor.
Each filmmaker brings a unique lens, using a range of genres including fiction, documentary, docu-fiction, animation, and experimental cinema.

This diversity of style adds to the richness of From Ground Zero, making it more than a film screening; it’s a cultural experience.
Audiences witness the creativity and resilience of Gaza’s filmmakers, who, despite daunting filming conditions, have produced an extraordinary body of work.
Beyond the screening, audiences will have the opportunity to engage directly with Masharawi in a live conversation.
This interaction promises deeper insight into the project’s challenges and triumphs, as well as the broader realities faced by Gaza’s artists.
In a world often saturated with media coverage on conflict, From Ground Zero shifts the perspective, focusing instead on the voices and visions of those living through it.
The screening serves as both an artistic celebration and a reminder of the power of storytelling in the face of adversity.
