Tell us a little bit of yourself
Hi! I’m JR, but you might know me as Roltan and I am from the Philippines. Since 2009, I’ve been proudly calling the UAE my home, and since 2017, I’ve had the pleasure of being part of the vibrant Abu Dhabi community.
As a Senior Social Media Manager at digitalfarm, a social media marketing agency in Yas Island, I get to blend my passion for creativity with my professional life. Moreover, as a licensed content creator and blogger, I enjoy showcasing my adventures and experiences in Abu Dhabi on my Instagram page @roltanjr.
How and when did you move here, and what inspired the move?
I moved to Abu Dhabi from Dubai back in 2017 after accepting a job offer here. Without a second thought, I made the leap, and I’ve got to say, I haven’t looked back since. Living in Abu Dhabi has been nothing short of fantastic!
How has living in Abu Dhabi shaped your sense of belonging and community?
Living in Abu Dhabi has deeply shaped my sense of belonging and community. As a content creator sharing my experiences in this lively city, I’ve explored its diverse food scene, historic landmarks, beautiful beaches and more.
These adventures have not only exposed me to the richness of Abu Dhabi’s culture but also helped me connect with its people. The city’s blend of tradition and modernity, along with its inclusive vibe, has made me feel like an essential part of this vibrant community. Through my content, I’ve been able to contribute to Abu Dhabi’s story while also broadening my own perspective.
Can you tell us about a particular person in Abu Dhabi who has had a significant impact on your life and why?
Picking just one person in Abu Dhabi who has greatly influenced my life is tough. The diverse and lively community here is full of people who have impacted me in different ways. From mentors helping me in my career to friends supporting me personally, each person has left a lasting impression on my journey.
Their collective wisdom, kindness, and encouragement have molded me into who I am today. While it’s hard to point out one person, I’m thankful for the many amazing individuals in Abu Dhabi who have made my life meaningful.
What is your favourite thing about the emirate and why?
My favorite thing about Abu Dhabi is its laid-back vibe. The relaxed pace and peaceful lifestyle make everyday living enjoyable. What’s great is that despite the calm atmosphere, you can easily access everything you need without any rush. People here are so chilled, which adds to the overall sense of ease and contentment.
A myth about Abu Dhabi that you would like to bust
People often think Abu Dhabi is just a desert with few things to do for fun. But that’s far from the truth!
Abu Dhabi is actually a lively, modern city bursting with culture, entertainment, and leisure activities. From stunning beaches to thrilling theme parks, museums, and exciting concerts, there’s always something happening here to keep you entertained and engaged.
Could you share a memorable moment when you felt the genuine warmth and hospitality of the Abu Dhabi community in your own life?
As a blogger fortunate enough to explore numerous locations in Abu Dhabi, I’ve encountered countless fantastic moments. Yet, what truly leaves a lasting impression is the authentic warmth and hospitality radiating from the city’s community.
Whether I’m in malls, restaurants, shops, or attending public events, I’m continually struck by the genuine enthusiasm and friendliness of the people. This unwavering warmth is what makes Abu Dhabi feel like home to me, even after all this time.
