Abu Dhabi Register of Artisans

Preserving Emirati heritage, the initiative registers 786 artisans, generating AED 9 million sales and 150

In a bid to uphold Emirati cultural heritage, the Abu Dhabi Register of Artisans, initiated by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) in 2020, has seen an impressive registration of 786 licensed artisans.

Additionally, the platform has provided training opportunities to 445 professionals across various age groups.

This endeavor aligns with DCT Abu Dhabi’s commitment to safeguarding traditional practices while empowering Emirati artisans.

Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Under-Secretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, emphasised the importance of preserving local handicrafts, stating that supporting artisans contributes to the sustainability of traditional crafts and the preservation of national identity.

Enlisted Emirati handicraft practitioners on the Abu Dhabi Register of Artisans receive official certificates for up to 17 approved traditional crafts, including pottery, tailoring, Al-Sadu, and carpentry.

With an official Artisan ID card and a database listing, artisans gain opportunities for participation in local and international events.

Functioning as a custodian of the handicrafts sector, the Abu Dhabi Register of Artisans ensures artisans have the tools and resources needed.

The platform, under the umbrella of Abu Dhabi Crafts, aims to make the crafts sector a dynamic contributor to the national economy.
