I WANT TO BUY A VILLA: Filipina Mahzooz winner reveals how she’ll spend her AED 10 million prize

Childless Filipino couple went from earning AED 7,000 to becoming instant millionaires.

What is the first thing you would buy if you won AED 10 million? A Filipina expat in Abu Dhabi, who became an instant multimillionaire after winning Mahzooz’s 117th Super Saturday jackpot over the weekend, wants to invest in property in the UAE and bring her family to the country.

Arlene, a sales promoter who has lived in the capital for more than 12 years with her husband, a merchandiser, earning a combined monthly salary of AED 7,000, now intends to make the UAE her second home as she revealed plans to purchase a house and even secure a Golden Visa.

“I now plan to buy a lot and build my house in the Philippines, and help my husband’s family and my family, and donate to charity,” the 40-year-old Filipina said. “And maybe I’ll buy a small villa here and bring my family.”

Arlene had been buying tickets for the draw for over a year without any luck when Lady Fortune finally smiled favourably on her Saturday night. Her lucky numbers: 9, 10, 13, 28 and 29, which all relate to significant dates in her life. “It’s my husband’s birthday, my birthday, my mother-in-law’s birthday, and my father’s date of death,” she said.

Apart from a home Arlene and her husband can call their own, the childless couple intend to build a house for their respective families.

“I have not been able to sleep for two days after hearing my husband tell me about the email I got from Mahzooz informing me of my win. I only had AED 17 in my bank account and my husband went out and deposited an additional AED 20 into my account so that I could purchase last week’s bottle of water for AED 35,” the Filipina revealed.

“Even when my husband selected the numbers as he always does, I was only hoping to win the AED 100,000, but I was shocked when I saw the email stating I won the AED 10 million grand prize. I counted the zeros so many times.”

Arlene is the fifth Filipino millionaire from the Mahzooz draw, and 32nd overall.

“Filipinos come second in both participation and winners in Mahzooz, as around 50,000 winners have cashed about AED 62 million in total prizes over the past two years,” said Farid Samji, CEO of EWINGS, Managing Operator of Mahzooz. “Between 2021 and 2022, four winners from the Philippines became millionaires.”
