Over 300 Hawksbill turtles hatch at EGA’s Al Taweelah beach, adding to the UAE’s natural heritage
Shell-ebrate the good news! Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has welcomed over 300 new baby Hawksbill turtles to the world at their Al Taweelah beach this season.
Since 2011, EGA’s commitment to conservation has led to a whopping 7,500 successful turtle hatchings near their operations. That’s a turtley awesome achievement, right?
Hawksbill turtles are the only sea turtles laying eggs in the UAE, making EGA’s efforts even more critical.
Throughout the nesting season, EGA’s Sustainability team keeps a close eye on the beach. They protect the nests from predators and debris, ensuring these tiny turtles have a safe start to life.

So far, 116 nests have been laid on EGA’s beach since the monitoring programme began.
This year, four little turtles needed some extra TLC and were whisked away to the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Centre at Burj Al Arab. They’re getting the VIP treatment before their big release back into the wild.
And it’s not just during nesting season that EGA steps up. Before the eggs are even laid, EGA rallies volunteers for a massive beach clean-up at Al Taweelah.
In January, EGA employees banded together and removed a staggering 1,300 kg of waste washed up from the sea. That’s what we call teamwork!
Abdulnasser bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, couldn’t be prouder. He says, “EGA is committed to operating responsibly, including by protecting wildlife near our operations. We are proud to play a role in the conservation of these magnificent creatures, which are part of the UAE’s natural heritage and biodiversity.”
With an average lifespan of 30 to 50 years, these little Hawksbills have a long journey ahead, and thanks to EGA, they’re off to a swimming start.
Let’s raise a fin to EGA for their turtley amazing efforts!
