Junk Kouture’s World Final to be held in Abu Dhabi

Sustainable fashion – but make it competitive!

Sustainable fashion is all the rage. Designers are going above and beyond to create the best sustainable pieces to hop on to the trend as well as give back to the planet. But who says only designers can do ethical fashion?

Junk Kouture, a platform for youth creative expression, offers a trailblazing fashion design competition combining teenage creativity with environmental sustainability. And now, it’s set to host its first ever World Final in Abu Dhabi.

60 talented young design teams from across the world have qualified through Junk Kouture’s regional competitions to head to Abu Dhabi for the World Final on 11 January 2023 at the iconic Etihad Arena on Yas Island.

At the event, three expert judges – Fabio Piras (Head of Fashion, Central St Martins, London) Lise Pierron (French fashion model and influencer) and Mehreen Baig (UK broadcaster & author) – will choose six regional winners from the UK, USA, Ireland, France, Italy and the UAE.

The overall World Sustainable Designer of the Year will then be crowned from one of those six. Etihad Airways, the official airline partner and global partner of Junk Kouture, will sponsor those awards. There will also be nine other awards announced on the night including the Glamour Award, Purposeful Plastic Award and the Innovation Award.

Materials used by contestants for this year’s designs include items as diverse as a trampoline, plastic sanitary wrappers, a mannequin bust, ATM receipts and actual living moss.

Maz Hakim, the author and presenter for Virgin Radio, will host the hugely anticipated World Final. The event will also feature incredible live performances from local artists in the region.

Highlights from the World Final will be aired on Junk Kouture’s YouTube channel. Etihad Airways will also air the show across their inflight entertainment.
