Irish sports make welcome return to Abu Dhabi

Why not join in the fun with Irish GAA

If you are looking for a new sport to take up that combines a unique skill set and an enjoyable social aspect why not look to two of Ireland’s most traditional sports in hurling and football.

Na Fianna and Al Reem Shamrocks are two clubs within the city who train on a weekly basis and compete with the Gulf region’s best teams at monthly tournaments both here and around the Middle East.

Irish football and hurling have long been the predominant sports on the Emerald Isle, but also continue to gain popularity in the UAE with Na Fianna and Al Reem Shamrocks flying the flag in Abu Dhabi.

The Sheik Zayed Cricket Stadium in Khalifa (Al Reem Shamrocks) and Sheikh Zayed Sports City (Na Fianna) provide the backdrop for not only Irish ex-pats, but also a range of other nationalities too who want to experiment with these very intriguing and eye-catching sports.

Registration for both clubs is now open and players will expect to be back on the fields before the end of the month.

In true Irish spirit, every tournament throughout the year is rounded off with a nighttime event where players and officials from all teams socialise until the early hours of the morning.
