Hoops, dribbles, slam dunks and more.

Basketball fans, we have some major news that will put a bounce in your step; the final of the FIBA 3×3 World Tour will be taking place in Abu Dhabi.

Bouncing into town from 9 to 10 December, it will be the third time the capital has hosted the final of the tournament after 2015 and 2016 editions were played out in the city.

Last year saw the city organise a FIBA 3×3 World Tour Masters event on Kaser Al Amwaj on Abu Dhabi Corniche which saw ten Olympic medallists take part in the two-day tournament.

Speaking on the announcement, His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said it was an honour for the city to host the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Final.

HE Aref Hamad Al Awani said; “The event is beloved within our community and fits with our strategy to bring the best and most innovative sporting events in the world.

“We were delighted to see 3×3’s success at the Tokyo Olympics and are committed to continue growing the game together.”

Echoing His Excellency’s comments, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said; “Coming back for the Final six years later shows the spiking interest for 3×3 and the commitment of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.”

The 2022 final is slated to be staged on Yas Island with the official season calendar to be revealed by FIBA later this month.

And it isn’t the only major basketball event coming to Abu Dhabi in 2022 with confirmation of two pre-season NBA matches to be played in October at the Etihad Arena.
