Spartan World Championship qualifier dates announced

Races will be held in October and November.

It’s time to put on your best impression of Gerard Butler from 300 as the qualifiers for the Spartan World Championships have been announced.

Scheduled to take place at Al Ghazal Golf Club and Al Ain Zoo on the 8 to 9 October and 5 November respectively, the qualifying races that will test competitors’ grit, resilience and stamina, will provide the pathway to the Spartan World Championships that will be hosted in Liwa City from 2 to 5 October.

 

 

Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the hosting of the world championship, the first time it will be held outside the USA, has generated a massive interest in the upcoming qualifying meets.

Aref said: “We are super delighted with the lead-up for the Spartan World Championship, which is held outside the United States of America for the first time ever in their 10-year history of the event.

“The Spartan Worlds is a unique new addition to our growing list of international sporting events. It also adds to our list of community events promoting our government’s initiative of their healthy lifestyle program.

“Another feature of this competition is the amateur athletes of all levels can choose their own adventure while those elite juniors and elite adults vie for world titles.”

The Al Ghazal Golf Club meet will see two 5km Spartan sprint races (one female only and one mixed) comprising of 20 obstacles with which athletes must contend, held under the banner of Beast Cancer Awareness, in honour of breast cancer survivors.

The second leg at Al Ain Zoo will encompass a sprint, super, hurricane heat and kids’ races.
