Eid Al Adha most likely to fall on Saturday 9 July

The International Astronomical Centre made the announcement.

The first day of Eid Al Ahda is most likely to fall on 9 July, according to the International Astronomical Centre in a post on the UAE National News Agency, WAM.

The UAE moon-sighting committee is expected to confirm this date nearer the time.

Eid Al Adha, which is known as the festival of the sacrifice, coincides with the Hajj to Makkah, which a pilgrimage that all Muslims are expected to make at least once in their lives.

Hajj, a three-day festival, is expected to begin on 7 July.

Eid Al Adha is set to fall on a Saturday and therefore a long weekend is expected for workers in the UAE, although the exact dates for public and private sector will be announced nearer the time.
