The trees were planted in Abu Dhabi to coincide with an initiative that was launched alongside COP28

Just as promised back in November in line with the COP28 conference, over 850,000 trees have been planted along the mangrove areas in Abu Dhabi, ten for every visitor who attended the event late last year.

All eyes were on Abu Dhabi and Dubai towards the end of last year as COP28 was held between 30 November and 12 December, with some very high profile world leaders flying in to address the conference which discussed environmental issues.

Abu Dhabi is famous for its natural areas and over 850,000 mangroves were planted in different locations, including Marawah Marine Biosphere Reserve, Al Mirfa City and Jubail Island in Abu Dhabi.

The Jubail Island Mangrove Walk is one of the most popular things to do in the city and a very enjoyable way to take in the natural beauty of Abu Dhabi. Thousands of visitors make their way there every year during the favourable weather conditions.

Mangroves remain among the most productive coastal ecosystems in the world and are therefore very important because they provide a variety of environmental and economic services.

Mangroves are also very important in helping biodiversity and also enhance the water quality throughout the city and beyond.
