Fancy starting your Sunday with a little movement, some feel-good vibes and a good cause?

Pink Marina is coming to Yas Marina on Sunday, 4 October, bringing the community together for a fun morning of running, walking, wellness and raising awareness.

Held in support of Pink Awareness Month, the event is being organised in partnership with Vogue Fitness and Lockton, with adults aged 21 and over invited to take part in an easy-going 2km run or walk along the Yas Marina floating pontoon.

There’s no need to be a seasoned runner either – you can tackle the route at your own pace.

Registration opens from 6am, with the first participants setting off at 6.30am and rolling starts continuing until around 7.15am. Once you’ve crossed the finish line, that’s where the morning really gets going, with the wellness activation running from 7am to 11.30am.

You’ll be able to pop around a selection of health and wellbeing stands for screenings, consultations, assessments and wellness advice, with participating partners including Element Supplement, Danat Emirates Hospital, CRYO Health, Nutrili and Ibn Sina.

Danat Emirates Hospital will offer BMI, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings alongside specialist health and wellbeing consultations, while CRYO Health will be on hand with facial and skin assessments and wellness packages.

Nutrili will offer supplement consultations covering everything from sleep and energy to skin, hair and nails, while Ibn Sina will provide skin and hair analysis with personalised recommendations.

There’ll also be plenty of freebies and feel-good extras along the way, including healthy snack packs, supplement samples and wellness goodies. And yes, pink is very much encouraged, so dig out your favourite pink workout gear and get involved.

You can even make a morning of it with Yas Marina’s restaurants. Boroughs is offering 20% off morning coffee, plus 10% off pink protein shakes and pink treats, while Mika is serving up a special brunch package for AED190 per person.

Best of all, registration is free, although you do need to sign up in advance. Participants must be aged 21 or over and confirm that they’re able to safely take part in the 2km route.

Open from 2pm to 10pm, the Glow After Dark festivities get underway from 5pm, making it a brilliant option for an evening out with the family.

As daylight fades, the paths and spaces around the Zoo will begin to glow, with illuminated animal displays, colourful installations and larger-than-life performers creating a vibrant atmosphere.

It’s the kind of experience that gives you a reason to slow down, explore at your own pace, and see the Zoo from a completely different perspective.

Let there be light

One of the highlights of Glow After Dark is the line-up of LED performers, bringing plenty of energy to the evening with vibrant costumes, movement, and music.

You can expect dazzling lights and high-energy performances as the characters make their way around the Zoo.

You’ll also spot LED stilt walkers roaming through the grounds. Towering above the crowds in their glowing costumes, these larger-than-life characters are guaranteed to catch the attention of younger visitors and make for some seriously fun photo opportunities.

Then there are the animal lanterns and glowing decorations, which add even more atmosphere to the experience. Illuminated animal figures and glowing installations are dotted throughout the Zoo, turning the pathways into colourful trails as night falls.

For younger visitors, there’s also the chance to get involved with glow-in-the-dark face painting.

Little ones can choose colourful designs inspired by nature and wildlife before watching their faces light up under the evening glow. It’s a small addition, but one that is sure to become part of the fun.

Meet the animals after sunset

Of course, the lights and entertainment are only part of the experience. Al Ain Zoo remains all about getting closer to the natural world, with plenty of opportunities to discover and learn about wildlife during your visit.

The Zoo’s popular safari is a must for families, offering close-up views of African wildlife in a setting designed to make you feel much closer to the action.

One of the most memorable highlights is the chance to feed giraffes, giving visitors an opportunity to get up close to these remarkable animals.

Taking place at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi from 11 to 13 September, MEFCC will bring together fans of film, TV, comics, anime, gaming, cosplay, K-pop, collectibles and pretty much every corner of pop culture.

The WWE legend turned Hollywood superstar will headline MEFCC, appearing at the festival on 12 and 13 September.

Cena has packed more into his career than most could manage in several lifetimes. From professional bodybuilding and an early job as a limousine driver in Massachusetts to becoming a 17-time wrestling World Champion, he went on to conquer Hollywood with roles in The Suicide Squad, Fast & Furious, Barbie, Bumblebee and Superman.

He’s also a best-selling children’s author, producer, narrator and even a recording artist, having released a rap album inspired by his famous “You Can’t See Me” catchphrase.

Cena will join fellow One Piece star Mackenyu, who plays Zoro, and Joonas Suotamo, the Finnish actor behind the iconic Chewbacca in the Star Wars sequel trilogy and Lurch in Netflix’s Wednesday.

Mantis is landing in Abu Dhabi

Marvel fans, meanwhile, have another reason to get excited.

Pom Klementieff, best known as the delightfully chaotic Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is also heading to MEFCC.

She first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017 before returning for Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

She has also appeared in Oldboy, Mission: Impossible and Black Mirror, bringing plenty of action credentials to the festival. Away from the screen, the actor is a purple-belt martial artist and stunt performer, so expect more than a little superhero energy when she hits the Meet the Stars Zone.

K-pop demon hunters, assemble

Fresh from the global phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters, Arden Cho is another major addition to the line-up.

Cho voices Rumi in Netflix’s animated smash hit, which has become a worldwide sensation, while her previous screen credits include Teen Wolf, Pretty Little Liars and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

And she’s no one-trick pony. Cho is also a singer-songwriter, model and taekwondo black belt, with a seriously varied career spanning acting, music, fashion and even competitive poker.

Usopp is coming, too

Joining his One Piece co-star Mackenyu is Jacob Romero, who brings the live-action version of Usopp to Abu Dhabi.

Romero has won fans for capturing the sniper’s larger-than-life personality while giving the anime favourite a grounded live-action edge.

His television credits also include Greenleaf, Grey’s Anatomy, All Rise and The Resident, alongside a string of theatre projects.

Wizz Air is bringing back a selection of its Middle East routes this autumn, giving Abu Dhabi residents another budget-friendly way to get to Europe, with fares starting from just €24.99.

The airline has confirmed that flights to Abu Dhabi and Dubai will return from 25 October 2026 as part of a wider winter schedule reconnecting the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Jordan with European destinations.

Across the restored network, Wizz Air says there will be 12 routes and 49 weekly flights, offering around 470,000 seats over the winter season.

For Abu Dhabi, that means the return of some particularly handy European connections, including Budapest, Katowice, Krakow, Cluj, Sofia and Larnaca.

Where can you fly?

The first Abu Dhabi services are set to return from 25 October, with Budapest and Katowice among the routes coming back first. More services follow from 27 October, including flights to Cluj, Krakow, Sofia and Larnaca.

That gives travellers plenty of options for an autumn or winter escape, from city breaks in Budapest and Krakow to a sunny getaway in Cyprus.

The restored Abu Dhabi routes include:

Budapest – four flights per week from 25 October

Katowice – five flights per week from 25 October

Cluj – two flights per week from 27 October

Krakow – three flights per week from 27 October

Sofia – three flights per week from 27 October

Larnaca – three flights per week from 27 October

Wizz Air says fares across the restored network start from €24.99, although, as ever with budget airlines, the cheapest seats are limited and extras such as luggage and seat selection can cost more.

So, what happened to Wizz Air Abu Dhabi?

Wizz Air previously had a locally based Abu Dhabi operation, but the airline shut down those operations and exited its regional joint venture in 2025.

That did not mean Wizz Air disappeared completely from the UAE, however, as its wider European network continued to serve the region.

The latest comeback is therefore not the return of the old locally based Wizz Air Abu Dhabi airline. Instead, the European Wizz Air network is restoring routes to Abu Dhabi and Dubai for the winter season.

In other words, Wizz Air is coming back, just not quite in the same way as before.

And it’s not just Abu Dhabi

The wider relaunch covers four Middle Eastern destinations: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Jeddah and Amman.

Wizz Air says the 12 restored routes will connect nine European cities with those four destinations, creating 49 weekly services and around 470,000 seats throughout the winter season.

Some services have already restarted, including flights connecting European cities with Jeddah and Amman, while Abu Dhabi and Dubai services are scheduled to return from 25 October.

For UAE residents, that means more choice when it comes to getting out of the country without blowing the holiday budget before you've even reached the airport.

“It is essential that Cranleigh Abu Dhabi continues to develop its own traditions and identity, shaped by what is right for students in this unique context,” Matthews says.

“Global outlook and national identity must go hand in hand, to form an integral part of the Cranleigh experience.”

The forthcoming campus will give that philosophy physical form. It will feature dedicated environments for science, innovation, sport, the arts and Sixth Form learning.

He wants students to understand how things work, to build, problem solve and develop practical capabilities alongside academic knowledge.

The Walt Disney Company and Miral are bringing the project to life, making it Disney’s seventh theme park resort worldwide and its first new destination since Shanghai Disney Resort opened in 2016.
And this won’t simply be a Disney park dropped into Abu Dhabi. Walt Disney Imagineering is creating something designed to feel distinctly of the emirate, drawing inspiration from its mangroves, oases, desert landscapes, marine life and dazzling modern skyline. The result is a new Disney world where Abu Dhabi itself becomes part of the story.

What was announced about Disney in Abu Dhabi?
The Walt Disney Company and Miral announced plans for a new Disney theme park resort on Yas Island, marking Disney’s first destination in the Middle East and its seventh theme park resort worldwide.

Who is behind the project?
The project is a collaboration between The Walt Disney Company and Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations. Miral will lead development and operations, while Disney will oversee creative design and attraction development.

 
Where exactly will the Disney park be located?
Disney Abu Dhabi will be built on the waterfront on the northern side of Yas Island, in the Yas North area near the E12 Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Highway.

Your next meal out in Abu Dhabi could come with a slightly healthier side – and no, we’re not talking about restaurants suddenly banning fries.

A new set of rules is shaking up menus across the capital, with hotel restaurants and food and beverage outlets operating under a valid DCT Abu Dhabi tourism licence now required to include a minimum number of healthy options.

The policy came into effect on 1 July 2026, but restaurants have been given a three-month grace period to get everything in order. From 1 October, the requirements become mandatory.

So, what does that mean for your dinner?

Essentially, restaurants need to make sure there’s at least one healthy option in every category on an adult menu.

That means starters, mains, sides and desserts should each have a dish that qualifies as healthy under the official SEHHI standards. 

SEHHI is the approved healthy-food classification developed by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC). It looks at things such as fat, sugar and salt levels, while also considering the overall nutritional value of a dish.

Once an item meets the requirements, it can be identified on the menu with the official SEHHI logo – making it easier for diners to spot the healthier choice without having to interrogate the waiter about every ingredient.

Kids’ menus are getting an even bigger shake-up

There’s a particularly interesting change for younger diners, too.

Restaurants must ensure that at least 50 percent of everything on a children’s menu qualifies as healthy according to the SEHHI criteria.

So while chicken nuggets and chips might not be disappearing anytime soon, there should be plenty more nutritious options making their way onto kids’ menus.

Restaurants can also adapt suitable healthy dishes from their adult menus into smaller, child-friendly portions to help meet the requirement.

Not every restaurant is included

There are a few exceptions. Buffets and service models without a specific menu, for example, are outside the mandatory requirements, although they’re still expected to make reasonable efforts to provide healthy choices.

Tasting menus are also excluded, as are certain niche F&B outlets with a very limited offering.

To qualify, these outlets must have no more than three food categories, no customer seating and no written menu beyond signage or display boards. Drinks-only outlets are also excluded.

For everyone else, the healthy-menu rules apply.

And restaurants can’t simply get their menu certified once and forget about it. If dishes are added or replaced, the required number of healthy options must still be maintained, while previously approved healthy dishes may need to be re-submitted for validation following changes.

Restaurants may also be asked to submit menus, recipes and nutritional information to the relevant authorities to demonstrate compliance.

Abu Dhabi’s restaurant scene is getting a little more health-conscious – one menu at a time.

Few cultural projects in Abu Dhabi have generated quite as much anticipation as Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

And now, the wait is almost over: the landmark museum is officially set to open its doors on 11 December 2026, bringing a major new destination for modern and contemporary art to Saadiyat Cultural District.

Designed as a space for encounter, exchange and discovery, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will explore art from an international perspective, with a distinctive identity shaped by the UAE and the wider region.

It will join Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, further cementing Saadiyat as a global cultural hub.

With its striking architecture, ambitious collection and focus on artists and stories from across the world, this is set to be one of Abu Dhabi’s biggest cultural openings yet.

So, when can we actually visit?
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will open to the public on 11 December 2026, bringing a major new destination for modern and contemporary art to Saadiyat Cultural District.

What will the building look like?
Prepare for something dramatic. The museum has been designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry, the creative force behind some of the world’s most recognisable cultural landmarks.

His design for the Abu Dhabi outpost draws inspiration from the UAE’s desert surroundings and traditional wind towers.

The striking asymmetrical cones that define the exterior aren’t just for show, they’ll function as entrances and outdoor exhibition areas.

Inside, the scale is just as impressive. Head of Year 12 Claire Masters highlights the importance of being able to support a child who may have joined NAS Abu Dhabi as early as FS1 all the way through to graduation.

If A Levels ultimately prove not to be the right fit, she argues, there should be another meaningful route available.

“Success will look different for every young person, and our role is to make sure they feel valued, supported and able to move forward with confidence,” adds Masters.

The aim is simple: every student should feel they have a pathway towards their own version of success.

Buying an off-plan home usually comes with one big question: how are you going to pay the final chunk when the keys are ready?

Well, Abu Dhabi has just made that part of the process a little easier.

Aldar has completed the capital’s first mortgage registration for an eligible off-plan property under a new framework introduced by the Abu Dhabi Real Estate Centre (ADREC), potentially giving homebuyers more flexibility when it comes to financing their properties before they are handed over.

So, what does this actually mean?

Previously, buyers purchasing off-plan property would typically arrange their mortgage closer to completion and handover.

Under the new framework, eligible buyers can secure mortgage financing while their property is still under construction.

There is one important condition: buyers must have already paid 50 per cent of the property's purchase price.

Once that milestone has been reached, the buyer can arrange a mortgage against the off-plan property, with the bank financing the remaining instalments as well as the final payment due at handover.

In simple terms, if you've already paid half of your home, you may be able to get the mortgage sorted sooner rather than scrambling to arrange finance when the development is finally ready.

Why should buyers care?

For anyone buying off-plan, having the financing locked in earlier could make budgeting considerably easier.

Rather than waiting until completion to find out what mortgage terms are available, buyers can potentially arrange their financing during the construction period.

That means greater certainty around repayments, rates and overall funding, while also allowing buyers to keep more cash available rather than paying everything as the property approaches handover.

It also means one less major financial job to tackle when you're getting ready to collect the keys.

The new system allows the financing bank to be formally recorded on the mortgage registration certificate before the property is handed over, providing greater clarity around the arrangement for buyers, developers and banks.

Aldar leads the way

Aldar is the first developer in Abu Dhabi to complete a registration under the new system, working with Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) as the mortgage provider for the initial transactions.

The framework follows UAE Central Bank regulations, which require buyers to have paid at least half of the property's value before they can qualify for off-plan mortgage financing.

One of Abu Dhabi’s biggest cultural projects is finally approaching its grand opening. Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will open on 11 December 2026, adding another major institution to Saadiyat Cultural District.

Designed by the late Frank Gehry, the striking museum will focus on modern and contemporary art from around the world, while placing particular emphasis on connections between different cultures and regions.

The building will feature 30 galleries, a central atrium and ten dramatic sculptural cones. It will join Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena as part of the growing cultural district.

Dar al Funoon Abu Dhabi

Scheduled for 2030, located near Saadiyat Cultural District

A major new chapter for Abu Dhabi’s performing arts scene is also taking shape with Dar al Funoon Abu Dhabi, or House of the Arts.

Scheduled to open in 2030, the new venue is being developed as a home for year-round performances spanning opera, ballet, theatre and live entertainment.

Beyond its programme of shows, the project is designed to support artistic residencies, international collaborations and opportunities for Emirati and regional creatives.

It promises to add another important cultural destination to the capital, strengthening Abu Dhabi’s growing reputation as a hub for arts, performance and creative exchange.

Disney magic is officially heading to Abu Dhabi, with The Walt Disney Company and Miral planning a huge new theme park resort on Yas Island.

Set on the waterfront, the destination will be Disney’s seventh theme park resort worldwide, blending much-loved characters and stories with Abu Dhabi’s culture, architecture and coastal setting.

The resort is expected to feature immersive attractions, themed accommodation, restaurants, shops and entertainment, with Disney Imagineers leading the creative design.

Miral will develop and operate the resort, which is set to add another major draw to Yas Island’s already impressive entertainment line-up.

The highly anticipated expansion will bring the wizarding world to life on Yas Island, with each area offering its own immersive setting inspired by the Harry Potter universe.
But there’s more magic on the way, with the expansion also introducing world-exclusive Harry Potter-themed rides, promising a one-of-a-kind experience for fans across the Middle East.
First announced in 2022, the wizarding world is officially taking shape, and 2029 can’t come soon enough.

Where is all the magic happening?
The new land will be housed inside Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi on Yas Island, a hub of entertainment that already boasts Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi.

The Harry Potter expansion will grow the park by roughly 26%, making the indoor playground even bigger and more enchanting. Construction is already underway, with new structures rising alongside the existing park.

 
Will the new Harry Potter land be all indoors?
Just like the rest of Warner Bros. World, the Harry Potter area will be entirely indoors and climate-controlled.

That means you can escape the UAE’s summer heat while exploring Hogwarts or strolling through Diagon Alley without breaking a sweat. Rain or shine, the magic never stops.

 
What part of the Wizarding World can we expect?
Hogwarts Castle will bring the magic of the school of witchcraft and wizardry to life, with grand architecture, familiar details and immersive experiences inspired by the films.
Diagon Alley will be all about exploring the wizarding high street, packed with magical shops, themed dining and plenty of details to discover as you wander its winding streets.
Then there’s the Forbidden Forest, where things are set to get a little more mysterious. You can expect a darker, more atmospheric environment inspired by the enchanted woodland and its magical creatures.
Across all three areas, visitors can expect themed attractions, world-exclusive rides, shops, food and plenty of photo-worthy moments, creating an immersive Harry Potter experience unlike anything currently in the Middle East.

PARTNER CONTENT: The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix entertainment lineup just got even more exciting, with globally acclaimed electronic music artist Anyma announced as the latest superstar set to take over Yas Gateway Park for an official after-party.

The Italian-American artist, producer and DJ will perform on Friday, 4 December, following the opening day of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, bringing his boundary-pushing audiovisual experience to Yas Island.

Brought to us by Brag and Live Nation Middle East, in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Miral, the performance adds another huge name to the UAE’s ever-growing calendar of world-class music and entertainment.

And if you’ve seen an Anyma show before, you’ll know this is about much more than standing in front of a DJ booth.

The electronic music project of Matteo Milleri exists at the intersection of electronic music, digital art and immersive performance, combining hypnotic techno with futuristic visuals and ambitious storytelling.

Milleri, who is also one half of electronic duo Tale of Us and co-founder of Afterlife Records and its immersive event series, launched the Anyma project in 2021 and quickly developed a distinctive sound and visual identity that has made him one of electronic music’s biggest names.

His debut EP, Claire, arrived in 2021, followed by Sentient later that year, before he released his first full-length album, Genesys, in 2023. Genesys II followed in 2024, while The End of Genesys completed the trilogy in 2025.

The albums helped establish Anyma’s futuristic universe, exploring themes including technology, nature, humanity and coexistence.

His impressive list of collaborators includes Grimes, Ellie Goulding, Sevdaliza, CamelPhat, Yeat, Lana Del Rey, FKA twigs and Lisa, while his live shows have taken him to some seriously spectacular venues and festivals around the world.

He has held a residency at Sphere Las Vegas with Afterlife Presents Anyma: The End of Genesys and has headlined major festivals including Ultra Miami, Sziget Festival and Zürich Openair. He has also performed a sold-out show at the Pyramids of Giza and served as creative director for The Weeknd’s 2024 One Night Only concert in São Paulo.

More recently, Anyma has entered his next creative chapter with Anyma presents ÆDEN, a brand-new audiovisual show that premiered at Coachella 2026.

The new production showcases his ever-evolving approach to electronic music and visual storytelling, following milestones including what was described as China’s largest-ever electronic headline show in Shanghai and a second summer residency at the world’s first hyperclub, [UNVRS], in Ibiza.

That makes his Abu Dhabi appearance a pretty fitting addition to an F1 weekend, where the entertainment continues long after the cars leave the track.

Fans can expect an immersive production combining electronic music, animation, visual effects and digital art, creating an experience that sits somewhere between a concert, club night and futuristic art installation.

Got a few too many black points sitting on your Abu Dhabi driving record?

There’s a chance to wipe eight of them away this week, and it could cost you AED 800.

Abu Dhabi Police is offering a special black-point reduction service at ADIHEX 2026, giving eligible motorists the opportunity to remove eight points from their record by registering for the programme, paying the AED 800 fee and completing a rehabilitation course.

The offer is available to drivers who have accumulated between eight and 23 black points, meaning you could potentially give your driving record a much-needed reset before those points start causing bigger headaches.

The service is being offered through a dedicated Abu Dhabi Police platform at ADIHEX, which is taking place at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi until 6 September.

Once drivers complete the required rehabilitation course, the eight black points will be deducted from their traffic record.

And if you've already reached the big 24-point threshold, there is a separate route to getting your driving licence back.

Drivers in this situation can register for a rehabilitation programme, pay AED 2,400, and complete the required traffic-law offenders course before their licence can be restored.

Abu Dhabi Police says the initiative is designed to make traffic services more accessible while encouraging motorists to deal with violations and improve their road-safety habits.

So, if your black-point tally is creeping towards the danger zone, ADIHEX could be worth a visit this week.

Just remember, the special service is only available while the exhibition is running, so you’ll need to get there before it wraps up on 6 September.

Abu Dhabi is getting another big name in comedy, and this one comes with plenty of sharp observations, big laughs and no shortage of stories.

Whitney Cummings has joined the line-up for the third edition of Abu Dhabi Comedy Season, making her Abu Dhabi debut with a special early show at Etihad Arena on Sunday, 31 January 2027.

The acclaimed American comedian, writer and podcaster will take to the stage earlier in the day, before British comedy favourite Paul Smith performs at the same venue later that evening.

So, if you fancy turning your Sunday into a full day of comedy, there’s going to be plenty to choose from.

Cummings is no stranger to the spotlight. Described by Variety as “one of the sharpest minds in comedy”, she has built a career spanning stand-up, television, film, writing and podcasting.

At just 29, she created two network television shows that premiered in the same season – the hit CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls and NBC’s Whitney, in which she also starred.

Since then, she has gone on to appear across a host of television shows and films, while releasing six stand-up comedy specials and working as an executive producer on ABC’s Roseanne.

She is also the host of the popular podcast Good For You, where she brings her trademark candid humour to conversations covering everything from relationships and culture to the strange realities of everyday life.

Cummings is currently touring with her Big Baby stand-up tour, which runs through 2027, making her Abu Dhabi appearance a chance for local audiences to catch one of the biggest names in American comedy live.

She joins an already impressive Abu Dhabi Comedy Season line-up, with Morgan Jay performing on 11 October, followed by Russell Peters on 25 October, Mo Amer on 6 November, Maz Jobrani on 7 November and Paul Smith on 31 January.

And this is only part of the programme, with more comedians and performances expected to be announced throughout the season.

Cummings’ show will take place at Etihad Arena on Yas Island on 31 January 2027, with the early performance giving fans the perfect excuse to start the day with some laughs.

POWER SLAP 25 Presented by Monster Energy is set for Friday, 23 October at Space42 Arena, marking the third consecutive year the sport has brought a major live event to Abu Dhabi.

And now we know exactly what the headline fight will be.

The main event will see Dayne “Da Hawaiian Hitman” Viernes take on Dumpling in a highly anticipated Super Heavyweight Title rematch that has been more than a year in the making.

The two giants first met at Power Slap 13 in June 2025, where Viernes claimed the Super Heavyweight Championship after a five-round majority decision. Since then, Da Hawaiian Hitman has successfully defended his belt against

No. 1-ranked Super Heavyweight Makini Manu, while Dumpling is heading into the rematch after a knockout victory over slap-fighting veteran David Zales at Power Slap 22 in Serbia.

The bout promises plenty of power, with the two fighters bringing almost 800 pounds of combined weight to the Power Slap stage.

Dumpling is also one of the sport’s biggest stars and holds a special place in Power Slap history, having been the first slap fighter spotted by founder Dana White before the sport launched.

The Abu Dhabi event will be streamed live and free worldwide on the Power Slap YouTube channel, so fans everywhere can tune in to see who walks away with the Super Heavyweight title.

If you’re driving around Abu Dhabi this week, keep an eye out for school buses, and definitely don’t try to sneak past one when its stop sign is out.

Abu Dhabi Police has reminded motorists that they must come to a complete stop when a school bus extends its side-mounted Stop arm while children are getting on or off.

And there’s a good reason for the rule. Children may need to cross the road in front of the bus, so drivers must leave them plenty of space and time to get across safely.

The rule is simple: stay at least five metres away from the school bus when its Stop arm is extended.

That means no creeping forward, squeezing past or trying to get around the bus before it moves off. Wait until the bus has finished picking up or dropping off pupils and the Stop arm has been retracted before continuing.

What’s the fine?

Getting this one wrong could prove seriously expensive.

Passing a stopped school bus while its Stop arm is extended carries:

With schools reopening across the emirate, school buses are once again out in force, particularly during the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up rush.

Police are urging motorists to slow down and stay extra alert around schools, residential communities and bus stops. Even if you’re running late, it’s not worth taking a chance when children could be crossing the road.

So, the next time you see a school bus with its Stop arm out, stop, stay five metres back and wait. It’s a small pause that could make a big difference to a child’s safety.

Disney+ Live in Concert is coming to Abu Dhabi from 18 to 20 December, bringing four much-loved films to the big screen at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra performing the soundtrack live.

The concert series is being presented by Proactiv Entertainment, in collaboration with Disney Concerts, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Miral, and has been specially curated for audiences in the UAE.

And yes, there are some seriously nostalgic titles on the line-up.

The three-day series kicks off on Friday, 18 December, with Encanto.

Expect all the colourful Colombian magic of the Disney favourite, complete with its hugely catchy soundtrack and, of course, the song you definitely haven't been able to escape since 2021: “We Don't Talk About Bruno”.

Then things get even more nostalgic on Saturday, 19 December, with two films in one day.

The series wraps up on Sunday, 20 December, with arguably one of Disney's biggest-ever classics: The Lion King.

You can expect to hear Circle of Life, Hakuna Matata and plenty of big-screen Disney magic, with the film's iconic music performed live by the orchestra.

Rather than simply watching the movies, audiences will see the full-length films projected on the big screen while the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra performs the scores and songs live in sync with the action.

American electronic duo The Chainsmokers, made up of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, are behind some of the biggest dance-pop hits of the past decade.

The pair shot to global fame with tracks including Closer, Something Just Like This, Don’t Let Me Down and Paris.

Irish pop-rock band The Script have built a huge international following with their emotional songwriting, soaring choruses and instantly recognisable sound.

The Dublin-formed group are best known for hits including The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, Breakeven, Hall of Fame and Superheroes.

So far, organisers have revealed a seriously impressive line-up, with Zara Larsson and Lewis Capaldi kicking things off on Thursday, 3 December.

Then, on Saturday, 5 December, it’s the turn of Grammy-winning rock band Imagine Dragons. Expect a huge arena-style show packed with some of the group’s biggest hits, including Believer, Thunder and Whatever It Takes.

But the music starts even before the Grand Prix weekend officially gets underway. Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will perform at Etihad Arena on Wednesday, 2 December, as part of the inaugural Yasalam Classics Series.

He’ll be accompanied by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra for a special performance celebrating 30 years of his iconic Romanza album.

The Yasalam programme will run alongside the F1 season finale, with concerts taking place from Thursday through Sunday and included with eligible Abu Dhabi Grand Prix tickets.

Organisers have already teased that more artists are still to be announced, meaning the line-up could get even bigger before December.

With high-speed racing, global music stars and four days of entertainment across Yas Island, Abu Dhabi’s F1 weekend is shaping up to be one of the biggest events on the 2026 calendar.

Instead, you’ll need to head to the relevant licensing centre, complete an eye test, have your licence translated and uploaded to the system, and pay the required fees.

Who can convert their driving licence?

The good news is that residents holding a valid driving licence issued by an approved country can apply for a UAE licence conversion.

Once you've established that you're eligible, head to the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Directorate in Al Sa’adah.

There’s no need to book an appointment in advance, making this a relatively easy piece of admin to tick off your list.

The centre is open Monday to Thursday, from 7.30am to 4pm.

What do you need to bring?

Thankfully, you don't need to arrive with a mountain of paperwork. Make sure you have:

Your Emirates ID

Your original, valid driving licence

Your smartphone

It's worth making sure you have everything with you before setting off, as you’ll need your phone during the application process.

How does the conversion process work?

Once you arrive at the licensing centre, the process is fairly simple.

1. Start at reception

Head to reception when you arrive and explain that you want to convert your driving licence. Staff will point you towards the relevant office, where you'll complete your mandatory eye test.

2. Complete the eye test

The eye test is one of the first steps in the process. Once you've passed and paid the fee, you'll be directed to the next stage.

3. Get your licence translated

You’ll then need to head to another building to have your driving licence translated into Arabic and uploaded to the system.

One important thing to remember: the translation fee needs to be paid in cash. If you don't have any on you, there is an ATM in the main building.

The translation costs approx. from AED 157.50.

4. Wait for confirmation

Once your translated licence has been uploaded, you'll receive an SMS from AUH Traffic confirming that your request has been received.

The system should then process your application, after which you'll receive another message confirming that your licence conversion has been completed.

Then things get even more energetic with The Butterfly Who Flew Into The Rave, an award-winning contemporary dance performance from Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Created and performed by Oli Mathiesen alongside Lucy Lynch and Sharvon Mortimer, the show takes the intensity of a three-day rave and compresses it into one relentless hour.

Set to Detroit techno album Nocturbulous Behaviour by Suburban Knight, the performance explores the movement, atmosphere and physical endurance of rave culture. Three dancers move continuously, with every beat, gesture and shift carefully choreographed.

The Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge is returning for its fourth season, bringing a new run of high-octane desert racing to the emirate between October 2026 and April 2027.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in collaboration with the Emirates Motorsports Organization, the challenge is set to bring together professional racers, ambitious amateurs and rising motorsport talent for four rounds across some of Abu Dhabi’s most spectacular desert terrain.

The 2026–2027 season gets underway at Tilal Sweihan on 17 October, before heading to Liwa in the Al Dhafra Region for the second round on 12 and 13 December.

Liwa will host the third round on 23 January, 2027, before the championship heads to the Al Ain desert on April 10 for the season finale.

Each round will cover more than 100 kilometres, with individual laps stretching approximately 25 kilometres.

The fastest competitors are expected to complete the course in around two hours, meaning there will be little time for anyone to take their foot off the throttle.

There were plenty of questions about whether Formula 1’s finale would go ahead this year, particularly after regional tensions led to the cancellation or postponement of a number of major events and concerts across the Middle East.

But for F1 fans, there is good news: the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix remains on the 2026 calendar, with the season finale scheduled for 3–6 December at Yas Marina Circuit.

Formula One President and CEO Stefano Domenicali  confirmed the good news, saying: “The calendar is confirmed. There are still a few tickets to be sold in Abu Dhabi… and we stay focused on delivering the calendar we promised at the beginning of the year. Everything is progressing very, very well.”

His Excellency Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said in a statement: "Hosting Formula 1 since 2009 has been a testament to our ambition to bring the world together through exceptional experiences and major international events. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix creates meaningful opportunities for our tourism, hospitality and events sectors and we are proud to build on this long-standing partnership. The uncertainty wasn’t entirely surprising. Earlier in the year, F1 races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were cancelled amid the regional conflict, while other major sporting and entertainment events across the region were also affected.

That inevitably raised questions about whether Abu Dhabi’s headline motorsport weekend could face similar disruption.

However, Abu Dhabi organisers have been clear that preparations are continuing as planned.

Ethara previously confirmed that the race would remain in its scheduled December slot, with organisers pointing to existing commitments with teams, performers, suppliers and fans.

The Directorate General of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police has urged people to stick to designated pedestrian crossings, bridges and tunnels when making their way across busy roads, as part of an ongoing road-safety awareness campaign.

And yes, that means resisting the temptation to make a quick dash across the road when the proper crossing is just a little further away.

Police warned that crossing randomly or from undesignated areas can significantly increase the risk of accidents, putting both pedestrians and drivers in danger.

Pedestrians caught breaking the rules can also face fines issued on the spot, so that shortcut could end up costing considerably more than an extra few minutes of walking.

Pedestrians have also been reminded to pay attention to traffic signals and pedestrian lights, rather than assuming a quick glance is enough to make a safe crossing.

Designated crossings are there for a reason. They give pedestrians a clearly marked and safer place to cross while also alerting drivers that people may be entering the road.

Drivers, meanwhile, have their own part to play.

Abu Dhabi Police is asking motorists to stay particularly alert when approaching pedestrian crossings, reduce their speed and give pedestrians priority when they are crossing.

The message from police is that road safety is very much a two-way street.

Pedestrians need to use the correct crossing points and follow signals, while motorists should remain attentive, drive at appropriate speeds and be prepared for people crossing.

The latest reminder forms part of Abu Dhabi Police’s wider Smart Road Security strategy, which focuses on improving safety for pedestrians and other road users across the emirate.

So, the next time you’re faced with the choice between walking an extra minute to the crossing or making a risky shortcut across the road, take the scenic route.

A few extra steps are a much better option than putting yourself, or your wallet, in danger.

Organisers of the 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Abu Dhabi have revealed the official race routes ahead of the 10-day sporting spectacular, which will bring more than 4,000 athletes to Hudayriyat Island from 13 to 22 November.

And this is no ordinary triathlon. The championships will feature six different disciplines, including Duathlon, Cross Duathlon, Aquathlon, Long Distance Aquabike, Cross Triathlon and Long Distance Triathlon.

It is also a pretty big moment for the region, with Abu Dhabi becoming the first destination in the Middle East and North Africa to host the championships.

More than 35 National Federations have already signed up, with athletes from Great Britain, the US, Australia and Brazil among those expected to compete.

The UAE will be bringing its biggest-ever multisport team too, with more than 160 athletes already confirmed as qualification continues.

The action will all centre around 321 Sports on Hudayriyat Island, which will become the Championship Village and the place to be between races.

As for the courses, expect plenty of variety. Competitors will swim through the waters surrounding Hudayriyat, cycle along coastal roads and purpose-built tracks, tackle mountain bike trails and take on trail-running routes.

Some races will even cross Hudayriyat Bridge, giving athletes some seriously scenic views of the Abu Dhabi coastline and skyline.

The schedule kicks off on 13 November with the WTCS Abu Dhabi Elite Sprint Races, before moving through the various championship events and culminating in the Long Distance Triathlon and Aquabike World Championships on 22 November.

And because no Abu Dhabi event is complete without something happening after the finish line, there will be community activities, entertainment and live concerts, with the soon-to-open Velodrome Abu Dhabi forming part of the Championship Village and concerts planned at Surf Abu Dhabi.

Judging by the line-up, November is shaping up to be one for the sporting calendar.

Rather than simply getting someone from A to B, these ambulances are being designed as an extension of the healthcare system itself.

Integrated into Abu Dhabi’s Unified Medical Operations Centre (UMOC), they allow emergency teams and specialised medical services to work together throughout the patient journey.

For critically ill patients, the Mobile ICU ambulances come equipped with advanced technology including ultrasound systems, infusion pumps and ventilators, allowing medical teams to provide a higher level of care while the patient is being transported.

There are also dedicated ambulances for mothers and newborns, featuring integrated incubators, ventilators and other specialist equipment to support both mother and baby during an emergency journey.

For patients living with severe obesity, the new ambulances feature specialised loading platforms and stretchers capable of carrying approximately 350kg, making transportation safer and more suited to individual needs.

The idea behind the initiative is simple: the ambulance should no longer be viewed merely as a vehicle that takes a patient to hospital. Instead, it becomes part of the treatment itself.

It is another example of Abu Dhabi's wider push towards a connected, intelligent and resilient healthcare system, where emergency services and medical teams work together from the very first critical moments, ultimately helping improve patient safety, continuity of care and outcomes.

For brothers Jacob and Harley Nelson, who founded SpudBros, that success helped confirm the UAE was the right place to take the brand global.

“When we first visited Abu Dhabi last year, we were blown away by the reception,” said Jacob. “To then become the best-selling food vendor at the Formula 1 was something we never imagined and gave us real confidence that SpudBros could resonate with people far beyond the UK.”

“Signing this agreement is a huge milestone for us as it’s our first step onto the international stage,” he added, saying the brothers were delighted to partner with Forward Hospitality.

Harley said the Abu Dhabi experience showed them that “great food speaks every language”, adding: “Seeing the queues, the excitement and the response in Abu Dhabi showed us that people everywhere love simple, quality food made properly.”

The UAE expansion is part of a much bigger international strategy for SpudBros Express, which has been growing its presence across the UK.

Boyd Baptist Wahr, Head of Strategic Operations at Taster, said the UAE represents an “hugely exciting market” for creator-led food brands, while praising Forward Hospitality’s understanding of the region.

For Disney, he explains, the opportunity is about thinking big, building big and creating something with real ambition.

Tom Fitzgerald, Chief Storytelling Executive and Senior Creative Executive at Walt Disney, explains that one of the big questions for the team was how to organise a Disney park in a place as geographically and culturally diverse as Abu Dhabi.

The answer, intriguingly, came from the emirate itself.

The team was inspired by Abu Dhabi’s different biomes, Fitzgerald explains, and the stories they naturally create. Because, in the Disney universe, setting is everything.

“Once upon a time” is followed by a place - “in a kingdom far away” or “in a galaxy far, far away” - and Fitzgerald says place-making is key to storytelling.

That idea could make Disney Abu Dhabi feel distinctly different from the company’s other parks around the world.

Rather than simply dropping familiar Disney worlds onto the island, the project is being designed around the character and environment of its host city.

For Al Mubarak, that also forms part of a much bigger ambition for Abu Dhabi: investing in the creative industries and using imagination as a catalyst for a new generation of thinkers.

After all, Disney’s worlds have already inspired generations through Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and Disney’s own legendary characters. Now, the hope is that bringing those worlds to Abu Dhabi could inspire people to create entirely new ones of their own.

Iger, meanwhile, returns to the importance of imagination. Reflecting on his time at Disney, he says working with storytellers was one of the most rewarding parts of his career, describing his role as supporting and challenging creative minds rather than telling the stories himself.

For him, great storytelling has limitless potential, provided there is enough ambition behind it.

“You have to dream big,” Iger says.
