What’s On at Al Jahili Fort in December

If Al Jahili Fort’s ancient walls could talk, they’re bound to reveal much drama. Majareeh is theatre you’ll want to put in your diary.

Al Jahili Fort, one of the largest forts in the United Arab Emirates, was built in the late 19th century by Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa the First, both as a symbol of power and as a royal summer residence. The original fort consisted of a square fortified enclosure and a distinctive four-storey circular tower.

In the month of December, why not take in some theatre to explore the fort and its history through drama.

The Emirati play Majareeh (translation: ‘The Wounded’) by the Sharjah National Theatre is a cultural drama of beauty and tolerance. Majareeh presents the UAE as a global capital of tolerance, highlighting this value as part of the heritage of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and as a sustainable quality of today’s society, which accepts the ‘other’ and is open to other cultures. Schedule this drama into your next visit to Al Ain. Thursday, 27 December from 7 PM – 9 PM
