Discover how the UAE’s multi-cultural society blossomed with Warehouse421

The exhibit runs until 15 January 2022.

Aesthetes have a wonderful opportunity to look at the UAE’s history of welcoming expats through a new exhibition at Warehouse421.

Titled Past, Borrowed, the exhibition will feature archival images, photographs, text and audio history that looks at the social history shared between migrant communities in the UAE and their role in shaping the multi-cultural society in which we now live.

You can expect to see the works of UAE born and based artists including Ammar Al Attar, Bhoomika Ghaghada and Saleh Al Tamimi.

Running until 15 January 2022, the project is a collaboration with Dubai-based photography studio, Gulf Photo Plus (GPP).

Speaking on the exhibition, Head of Warehouse, Faisal Al Hassan, said the exhibit offers visitors a chance to explore the history of the UAE.

He said; “This is a very exciting exhibition as it does not only offer the community a glimpse into the history of the UAE as we celebrate the Year of the 50th, but it also allows those who found in the UAE home to be part of its narrative and to tell its story through their archives of photographs, texts, and objects.

“We are also in conversation with cultural institutions across the UAE to make the exhibition a traveling show in an opportunity to engage with people who came to this land, created their own families and built a life for themselves.

“Those people have been an integral part of the UAE journey and have contributed to the writing of its history.”

An Open Call to the community to submit archival material of the UAE to be part of the exhibition until 2 January 2022 was also announced and members can submit their works at Warehouse421.

Dovetailing with the exhibit will be a photography workshop – Photos of Home – which will be led by Fatema al-Fardan.

Participants will enjoy an exploration of their representations of home, identity, and belonging, opening a discussion about reality (homes that are solidly below our feet) and speculation (homes that are entirely in our minds) on 11 Saturday December from 10am to midday in Alserkal Avenue, Dubai.
