Between Two Seas – Screening

 

On 8 February, CinemaNA, part of Contemporary Arab Cinema, presents an online screening depicting a dramatic story of a forgotten society driven by a search for redemption, revenge and hope. Between Two Seas is directed by Anas Tolba and is followed by a Q&A with the director.

Ward’s Henna Party

 

Directed by Morad Mostafa, the screening on 10 February depicts Halima, a Sudanese henna painter living in Egypt. Halima goes to one of Giza’s local areas to prepare a bride for her wedding and her seven-year-old daughter Ward accompanies her and starts to wander around and discovers the place.

American Music – Minimal and Beyond: Emanuele Arciuli

 

Also on 12 February, this full programme highlights is performed live online, from the minimal motifs of Duckworth and Corigliano to the textured tunes of Rzewski, Emanuele Arciuli presents an expansive and captivating programme, including the world premiere of a new work composed by a member of NYUAD’s music faculty, Matthew Quayle.

Technique Workshop: Rhythms of the Arabian Sea (Arabic) NYUAD

Āhuti by The Nrityagram Dance Ensemble

 

Dance continues to play a key role in NYUAD The Arts Center calendar on 16 February, with Āhuti by The Nrityagram Dance Ensemble in collaboration with The Chitrasena Dance Company, who present a contemporary fusion of classical Odissi dance from India and Kandyan dance from Sri Lanka. The film is followed by a live artist Q&A.
