Early next term, the students of The British International School Abu Dhabi will be taking part in a Road safety awareness campaign. The slogan, ‘Seatbelts Are For Everyone’ will become the school’s mantra and the children will be getting involved in a series of activities and lessons with a focus on buckling up when in cars for all the journeys they undertake.
Steve West, a local Community Police Officer and an Arabic counterpart, will be with the school for the whole day to kick things off on Thursday, April 13, running assemblies for students from Year 1 up to Year 9. Furthermore, he will also spend some time with the FS students and a session has been arranged with the PTA to look at how they can help to raise awareness too.
In the meantime, the school will be launching a competition that will run in tandem with the awareness campaign. Using the adopted slogan, ‘Seatbelts Are For Everyone’, the school is asking students to create an eye-catching car sticker that would help remind other road users of the importance of buckling up when travelling on the roads.
Lastly, to help the school compile some data on how safe its children and parent community is when travelling by car, the school have developed a survey for both the parent community and students to complete – which the primary school students will analyse afterwards.
T-shirts, signage and posters around the school will help the students really drive the safety message within the community and beyond!
