Revel in fabulous style at this Lantern and Moon Festival in Abu Dhabi

Gather in harmony with friends and family where a host of fun activities for young and old alike and mouth-watering dining options await.

The mid-autumn festival, better known as the Moon Festival, is when cultural happenings such as colourful street performances and moon viewings all under the soft glow of  colourful lanterns takes place in the Far East!

But you don’t need to travel that far to join in all the fun. Instead, head to Qaryat Al Beri in Abu Dhabi where the Shangri-La hotel is hosting loads of autumnal treats centred on this ancient tradition.

The Lantern and Moon Festival, a symbol of unity and harmony, promises to honour this age-old tradition through a fabulous array of activities and tantalising dining options, which  kicks off on Friday, 2 October.

What to expect!

Diners rejoice as first festivities began with a lavish brunch at Sofra, starting from 1pm onwards. Don’t forget your swimming costume as beach access is included, but first you’ll want to tuck into Chinese and Vietnamese dishes, prepared by chefs at the any live stations.

Brunch packages start at AED 279, with soft beverages; AED 349 with house beverages (grape, hops, mixes); or instead, push the boat out and indulge in the bubbly brunch for AED 459. (We know which one we’d choose).

In true festival fashion, night time brings on a street-style dinner at the award-winning Chinese restaurant, Shang Palace. Book this and you’ll be joining Chinese festival-goers around the world by sampling opulent Chinese flavours. Or why not head to Vietnam instead through the hotel’s Hoi An restaurant where traditional Vietnamese cuisine will be served at a rather fabulous lantern-lit dinner.

The Mid-Autumn Festival dinner at both venues is from 7pm to 11pm and will cost you AED 168 per person inclusive of soft drinks. Want to take it up a notch or two?  Just add an extra AED 50 house beverages.

The festivities take place all day along with a Chinese Tea Master Show and Face Changing performance, as well as a live music played on traditional Chinese and Vietnamese instruments during dinner time to add to the festival atmosphere. And don’t forget the lantern-making workshops for the little ones!

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
