Radars installed on bus stop signs in Abu Dhabi

Drivers flouting laws will get AED 1,000 fine.

Stop signs on school buses in Abu Dhabi have been fitted with radars in order to detect motorists flaunting stop laws.

Motorists on both sides of the road are supposed to come to a full stop when the ‘stop’ sign arm is erected on the side of the bus, at a distance of five metres.

Those who violate the laws will be fined AED 1,000 with 10 black points accumulated on their driving licence.

The move comes in order to ensure the safety of pupils who are boarding and disembarking from the bus.

Bus drivers are also subject to new laws with failure to display the stop sign while collecting or dropping off school children resulting in a AED 500 penalty and six black points imposed on their driving licences.
